I defer to your expertise. I was just recalling what I (thought) I knew from researching OM and MSU when I was a junior in high school, which was about a decade ago. My memory is not pristine.

I was just messing with you - read the rest of my message.

The kids with the low ACT scores aren't making it, so its not like we have opened up a new world. Add to the fact that the Mississippi Department of Education has pushed college way harder than they should, and we have some real turds enrolled in higher ed in Mississippi.

I'll tell parents how it is. Some administrators won't - they'll coddle little miss 15 ACT like she is the brightest kid in the state, get them enrolled and shake their heads when they flunk out.

Attention parents of the OT: If your child has under the national average ACT, you might want to consider a lesser school or community college. Don't buy the "Some kids don't take standardized tests well" bull shite. Some kids aren't meant for college.

That actually got that approved?

Yeah, they have a campus in the office buildings just north of Madison. Guess what? It has attracted HBCU-quality as well.

Things are going to get better in MS - especially at MSU and Ole Miss when the handcuffs of the Ayers decision come off.

I think it was something like 60% of the kids at USM return after their first semester. 35% black, 50% low income students

Many Northshore and new orleans kids go there. Along with people from the Mississippi Gulf Coast area.

Had a bunch of friends ,that could've gone to LSU, go to USM. I don't know the exact numbers, but it was some ridiculous ratio of maybe 5-6:1 girl to guy. Always loved going to visit.

My daughter went there with out of state waivers and a scholarship. It ended up cheaper than LSU with TOPS would have been because housing is a little cheaper in Hburg. There were quite a few Dominican girls that ended up there (2008-12).

Academic common market. That's how I went to LSU for in-state tuition.

despite Jackson State's efforts of opening a campus in affluent Madison - it's not working.

well, that is for damn sure true...tulane also opened a sattelite campus in Madison, which kinda soaked up the market before Jackson state arrived...
