Is there a consensus on Swiss Army Knives?

I picked two up today. Small one for my keychain and a bigger Huntsman. I have a leatherman but I’ve been wanting one of these to throw in the car.

I bought them with gift cards so really didn’t cost me anything. Aren’t these things super durable and have a lifetime warranty? These cheap Swiss people literally put nothing in the box with the knife.

They were cool when I was 7 I’m pretty sure. Are you 7?

The little knife is a beast. Always sharp and durable if it’s same quality when I was growing up.

But it did cost you the price of buying something that is actually useful. The "key chain" Swiss might be the most overrated item ever. Looks cool and after 5 uses is worthless.

If it is the real deal, it might be pretty cool...unfortunately, all that I have had were cheaply made imitations that turned out to be useless crap.

Stick with Victorinox or Wenger. Those are the only two companies that have actual Swiss military contracts.

They suck. Be a man and get a Ka-Bar. In other words a real Army knife.

The Swiss tend to be neutral, so their army knives don’t get combat tested.

I got a free knockoff with a company sponsor name on it. Tossed it in my desk drawer. It is a cheapo but has come in handy for opening packages and occasional trimming of threads or such. Wouldn’t try to skin a squirrel with it or anything.

I’ve got a bad arse milatry jungle machete from the 40’s or 50’s that has been changed into a Bowie knife.

The tweezers can be used as “roach clips” for decades unless you leave them in someone’s ashtray in 1974.

Yes. And they have mandatory service for able men, conscription. Most Swiss households have guns because of the prevelance of military service, but bullets are very regulated in country.

They also, technically, protect the Pope.

La Place de la Concorde Suisse. John McPhee. They have not fought a war in 500 years. They are armed to the teeth. The Swiss Army is a militia with about 3/4 million male members, all citizens. Gun implacements in the mountain passes that are rolled out en auto with huge caliber rapid fire anti-armor and anti-air weaponry. You may incinerate them with bombs, but if you invade them you’re dead.

No longer have a Swiss knife, but a Swiss fire starter is legit. Extremely cheap and I keep one in my backpacks in case I go hiking/camping or if shite ever goes down. Would recommend to everyone.
