No it is not a timeless classic SUV. It is nothing but a pile of shite. I bought a Disco 2 for a 2nd vehicle to trail ride and take offroad. This thing was so high maintenance and I don't even want to add up how much I spend on this thing. I let my stepson have it and we spent over $1000 for the head gasket issue. Every time I see one of these on the road I wonder how far the owner had to reach into their pockets to keep that piece of shite running and on the road.

Preach bro. I'm simply talking about the body style. I'm a known Land Cruiser man myself.

Is there anyone in Louisiana that drives a Land/Range Rover? All my time growing up in Louisiana I never saw one.

The engine wasn’t the biggest problem with the Discovery’s lack of reliability.

Everything else was.

I bought a Range Rover Autobiography a few months ago and love the damn thing. Hope I don’t live to regret that statement :)

If by timeless classic SUV you mean piece of junk that couldn't leave the mechanic for more than a day, then yes.

If you want to see real hatred, drive by me in one of those Mercedes G-Wagon shitboxes. If I ran Customs we'd roll those things into the harbor upon arrival.

Buddy had one in high school. Model before OP. First time he took me for a ride I asked, "why does this damn thing feel like it's going to tip over every time you take a turn?"

"O they're designed that way, for offroading. It's supposed to move"

Whole damn cab felt like it was a see saw. I decided then and there that I never wanted one. Everything I've read about them since has pretty much validated my decision since.

I bought a 2011 LR4 Metropolis Limited Edition (only 300 made) in 2013 with 36k miles for $38k. My wife drove it daily from then until May 2019 and it had about 105k miles at the point we traded it in. Never had any major mechanical issues in that timeframe. Not sure if I just lucked out or what, but I definitely found it to be a more reliable vehicle than the Mercedes SUV we owned before. I wanted to upgrade to a newer LR4/Discovery, but the wife wanted an Escalade...we got the Escalade.

My 2014 has about 110000 miles on it and drives better than new. Tune and pulley change has me push about 650 hp. Only issue I've had was the blindspot sensor and the driver's heated seated had a ground.

The LR3 and the LR4 are very reliable vehicles.

They’re as good as anything Toyota has made in the last twenty years.

Depends on your perspective.

The tooling Land Rover used to make those blocks was run down and the blocks have serious issues. They drop liners like crazy and the blocks themselves are porous. Some rotted away with use, but some just cracked under thermal pressure.

A few were okay.

The coolant they were using was part of the problem, but they’d also chosen to run the engine hot to meet emissions standards and improve fuel economy.

Fuel economy was why they also chose a much thinner chassis.

That chassis will actually break in the rear, where it’s weakest.

Then throw in the classic Land Rover rust issues.

The old ones were excellent. Fantastic build quality and a very reliable drive train.

They also had a plaid interior, which was cool.
