quote:They were correct not to evacuated the whole city. IMO they should be faulted for not issuing at least warnings for areas susceptible to flooding.
She's telling people they should anyway because it's gonna be bad.
This was their defense to that:
quote:
"If we wanted to call an evacuation, we wouldn't even know where to call it," Emmett said, "cause we don't know where the rain's going to fall and which watersheds are going to be affected. So there is absolutely no reason to evacuate from Houston or the greater Houston area."
That's horseshite. Floods don't happen randomly in houston, they always start at the same areas and then expand into others

Rita
Harvey
Imagine if everyone that evacuated for Rita did so for Harvey and were trapped on the interstate when the water rose.

It's felt pretty damn randomly for this resident. And I didn't even flood... Yet.

Trolls need as little attention as possible if you aren't smart enough to know by now

That's just not true. For this storm, sure. But others have hit one water basin and left others manageable. This has been epic in just the vastness of rain through a large metro area.

News stations shouldn't report on pre hurricanes at all, because then people will want to leave and that's too dangerous. This was a good decision to lie about it.

Pics?
If not, don't cares.

One of the most ridiculous things I've read.

I was wondering this myself she had the anti PJ prediction

Some girl last Friday as the storm was making landfall posted some inside info that Houston was going to flood. The local authorities copied her post saying not to believe false information. People were calling for her job...
It's not like she went out on a limb. Every time Houston gets more than three inches of rain in a short period of time it floods. Everyone and their brother were forecasting at least 15 inches of rain. Did officials really tell people not to believe her?

This I think. All false, they were predicting 50 inches.
You're wasting your breath, people want to believe there was a coverup, even though almost everything she said is innacurate at best. Is all of Houston out of power? Also, everything I saw was talking about 50 inches of rain or more.
But her warning that if you live in a flood zone you should evacuate ahead of a massive rainmaker is probably good common sense advice

You may be on to something...
PJ storm prediction

If you have the means, the moral of the story here is to get out early anytime a storm is predicted in your area. Even smaller metro's are going to have evacuation issues 2-3 days out. It's a lot of people on the roads. This hit over the weekend when many people were off work. In reality they need to come up with a better system of recommending people move further away sooner.
The issue with recommending evacuations for this type of a storm is they are basically saying the city isn't prepared for it which then goes back on the politicians for being prepared. Then when they wait too long it's a logistical nightmare. It's a lose lose really.

She was fricking dead on. Makes it pretty clear there was a conspiracy to stupify the public about the danger.
Take the red pill folks.

The issue is not deciding to avoid evacuation. The issue is lying to the public and tell them not to panic over fake forecasts.
People had a right to be fully informed to make their own decisions. Throwing disinformation out prevents people from being able to properly analyze what they think is best for themselves.

113 people died during Rita. 107 were evacuating. Evacuating a metro of nearly 7 million people is not feasible. The correct decision seems to not be a full scale evacuation.
Acting like it's a coverup is disingenuous as best and fear mongering at worst.
I am so tired of hearing this BS. 6.5 million would not have to evacuate. My guess 1.5 million or so is all that would be needed. This was a rain event and not a wind event. Any first year GIS student could easily identify the areas at risk so they could be notified and evacuated.

My sister GTFO because she's lived in south LA her whole life and our family doesn't frock around with hurricanes. You know it's coming, leave.
Posted on 8/29/17 at 7:42 am to notsince98
What about everyone that panicked about the hurricane disrupting LSU/UF and then it was all sunshine and rainbows?

1.5 million is no joke.
The tricky part about this storm was how quickly it strengthened. By the time people knew what was happening, it was pretty much too late to evacuate 1.5 million people.

Oh so you just act like the Rita evacuation didn't happen. Where was the first year GIS student then?
