Trying to settle an argument with a couple others. I say Costco in Baton Rouge is not in a very good area and I wouldn't want my wife or kids there at night because I believe it's too close to the area of town where shite starts going down.

What does the OT think?

It's fine. Demographics aren't what make it a bad area.

It’s fine. Don’t be a wuss. Go by cheap stuff in large quantities.

So is it fine or is it a bad area but not because of the demographics?

Airline at 1-12? It's all industry. The neighborhood behind it, off Jefferson is very upper class. But those apartments off Bluebonnet extension were run down. I would say it's hit and miss right there..

Well from the early responses it would appear that I'm wrong.

That’s like 3 miles south of Florida. It’s fine. Just a little junky because it’s in Airline and I-12.

Where would you rather your wife and kids shop when you're not with them -- Costco Baton rouge or Sams in Denham Springs?

In this case. Whichever is closest. I wouldn’t worry about either location...at least not any more than the rest of the state.

Both seem okay to me. Costco is possibly easier to get into/out of.

It is not in a bad area. It is also not in a great area. It’s in an area that has been stable to modest growth. The bluebonnet connection was opened up a decade ago. Celtic studios is right there as well as dogget I think. They just tore down some old hotel and are building something new there.

Overall it’s not all shinny, bright and new but it has seen a rebirth. Now once you get past the interstate on airline, you have about 2 miles before you’re in a stale area of Baton Rouge which will hopefully change with the amazon distribution center. So overall that area is seeing an uptick.
I’d buy low, and sell high.

I wouldn’t feel safe anywhere in BR alone at night.

I would say its relatively safer than many other parts of Baton Rouge
I worked on the other side of Airline in college and had to go to the storage unit by Costco a lot and I never once feared for my life.

There are plenty of areas in the BR to be concerned over your wife shopping by herself, but Costco isn’t really one of them.

I don’t know, but I think that being overly protective of where your wife goes alone is probably putting her at a disadvantage. My mom is wayyyyyyy less self sufficient than me and not very confident doing things on her own because dad has convinced her there’s danger on every corner if she’s alone.

She canceled going to Houston with me a few months ago because he told her it’s dangerous hanging out in Houston and didn’t think it was a good idea. Lol, Houston.
