Is technology ruining human interaction?

I went out last night and left my phone in the car. While this was going on I observed every single person at the bar on the phone and bartenders checking their phone during the slow periods. I even tried to strike up a conversation about the baseball game with the guy next to me but he was more worried about what was on his phone.

I would have been happy to talk about the Astros sweep of the Yankees with you

You're probably just not his type.

Technology, the internet, phones etc are like anything else in life- it’s what you make it.
You can say the same thing about automobiles, for instance- they are responsible for a lot of deaths and injuries annually , but overall they are a benefit to society .. just like technology, or a myriad of other things that have advantages as well as drawbacks.

It is running a lot. It is ruining attention spans. Watch at a red light how many people spend the whole time on their phones.

Texting someone is human interaction

Yes....for a while now.
If you are just noticing it now though, then you are part of the problem.
...or you just got out of a solid decade+ long stint in jail. Which is another problem you have.
Brah...you just need help.

Those people were more than likely interacting with other humans. Just on their phones.
So it’s just changing how we interact. Not ruining.

I would have talked about how bad the Yankees suck right now

Possible, I could go to a bar and spend the entire time on TD. I'm interacting with people but it just doesn't seem the same. To see an entire row of people essentially staring down at their phones was actually depressing. Yes, I'm guilty but last night I was like damn

Yes. Taking my daughter to volleyball, I see parents lined up in the bleachers, most with their noses in their phones or playing Nintendo. I feel bad for the kids. Parents, pay show attention to your kids. Before long, they will be out of the house and you will kick yourself for not being fully present.

While cars have their own inherent safety issues, adding technology to the situation in the form of drivers on phones or texting as not improved anything.

What is this "human interaction" of which you speak?

If a couple go out to a eat, and they each spend the time staring at their phones instead of having a conversation about what happened in their life that day, that is not a positive thing. Technology has also encroached on what was once considered family time. It is now impossible for a lot of people to leave work at the office, their kids refuse to disconnect from school friends and interact with their family.
