Big group of us use to go to Gulf Shoes Plantation in the early 2000s before we all got married and had kids, the last few years we were there, it had gotten really bad with trash filtering in. Hadn't been to that place in like 20 years.

Has OB gotten worse? I don't frequent either but I don't really think Destin is considerably better than OB other than just the amount of "stuff".

Growing up

30A:Destin::OB:Gulf Shores

So in my head it's always been near the top of the AL beaches.

Have you seen the traffic there... Christ, It makes BR's rush hour like a minor jam up...

We've been hitting OB, PSB and Fort Walton....

Destin and 30A is too infiltrated with people now...

With all beach areas, you need to stay at the better places to get away from the trash.

Beautiful sand and water. Good food. I can easily avoid the trashy people at any beach town. I have seen the trashies from Pensacola to 30A and everywhere in between.

There really isn't a huge difference between the big beach towns on the gulf coast with lost of high rise condos. Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, PCB, Destin, etc. They're all the same.

I do think PCB has drastically improved from the 90's though. The western end of PCB closer to 30A is pretty nice. I'd much rather go there than deal with the horrendous traffic in Destin.

I don't meet any of your demographics but the simplest answer is that it is the closest beach. I can leave my house at 6 AM and be there by check in time

This is what I was thinking. I figured people liked to do OB because it is like 3.5-4 hours.

Isn't the Alabama gulf coast called the "Redneck Riviera?

Why would you go anywhere else when Grand Isle is in your state?

Ummm........ That term has historically been used for the Florida panhandle.

I stopped renting my condo out 4 years ago. People tear everything up and someone sneaking in two pet monkeys was the final straw.

The Ft. Morgan area is pretty nice. It’s a lot less crowded than being in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Lots of houses out there, so you get a lot of families. Haven’t encountered the trashy party crowd when I’ve stayed out there.

I don’t doubt that the owners of the condos are good people who aren’t trashy. It’s the vacationers that are trashy.

Orange Beach gets a bad rap. Any beach attracts people from all social and economic backgrounds.

My family has a house in Ft Morgan. It has a "trashy" element to it, but there's not more of it there than GS, OB, etc. It's about the only place anymore where there's room to spread out on the beach, even though you're staring at oil platforms. And the water can get a little gross looking the closer you get to Mobile Bay. But I can deal with both of those if I don't have to deal with a crowded beach and horrendous traffic.

combined with the trashy, seediness of the locals it makes the perfect storm of cesspool vacation destinations, this is one disgusting place
