I've seen more Starsnbars in western VA and WV than I have anywhere else in the actual south

Yeah WV doesn't really fit in anywhere and it seems like nobody really wants to claim it.

You could find make with it placed in any of those areas.

East Texas is definitely the south.

If West Virginia didn't have mountains and frigid winters, I would have sworn I was in rural Mississippi. Very southern in culture.

It's no different than far eastern Tennessee or Kentucky, or extreme western NC and Virginia.

Drawing cultural boundaries around state lines is futile.

The two states are far larger than just those small areas of the whole. I don't think anyone thinks there aren't similar places to the south in those states. Hell, any state has areas that seem country.

Nothing in rural Iowa or Minnesota is remotely southern.

I didn't imply "country". They have distinctly southern culture, accents, trailer parks, and foods. Those areas of Oklahoma and Texas are unquestionably part of the South, both geographically and culturally.

All this time I thought OK was a part of hell and the only two things coming out of there were steers and queers.

I'm not too familiar with Oklahoma, but there's absolutely nothing in modern Maryland or Delaware that feels remotely Southern to me.

You haven't been to Southern Maryland down near California/Pax River / Leonardtown areas. Very agricultural, especially tobacco farms.

accents

country accent is everywhere and easily mistaken for southern. is my point. trailer parks are in pleeeenty of places around the country. not that i dispute that those areas aren't like the south btw. just enjoying the semantics part of it.

Absolutely and this was why the south succeeded from the union. They believed in State sovereignty. Texas was Texas. Louisiana was Louisiana. Virginia was Virginia. So to be considered a southern state, I'd say you have to had been part of the Confederacy which defended State Rights and the Southern Cause.

That line needs to cut out Oklahoma, Delaware, and Maryland. None of those are Southern. Oklahoma is more West/Midwest and Delaware/Maryand are absolutely Northeast.
Also cut out South Florida too.

The dude who corrected is on it.

Oklahoma is more West/Midwest

Oklahoma is "Great Plains" along with Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and parts of some other states like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, and Iowa.

The Midwest centers on the Great Lakes. Oklahoma is way too far removed to be considered Midwest.

Oklahoma is pretty Southern culturally too. Not like LA culture, but more like Nashville feeling in some ways.
