Texas is only southwest in certain areas. Dallas, houston, and east Texas are nothing remotely like the southwest.

I'm not sure why this map ignores Southwest.

East Texas is closer to the South.

I would say most of Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico and southern parts of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California should be considered Southwest.

And the Northeast or Midwest can have West Virginia.

The South = The Confederacy + Kentucky - Texas

Well it's not part of the west or Midwest, so I guess it's the south by default.

In reality, there should be more divisions for culture. Appalachia is different than the deep south. The central plains are different than the west or Midwest. Etc

I would say leave out Utah, Colorado and California and yeah that's basically the southwest. West Virginia is another grey area. It's almost all mountainous so it's very Appalachia. Sort of it's own "culture". But not a very good one.

Hell no. The southeast part of the state is as close as it gets. But it’s not the south.

And I’m an Okie who was raised in the South.

When I'm driving from DC to the midwest or West Virginia we pass through western maryland. If it wasn't built completely into hills it could be very similar to other southern towns. It blows my mind how many confederate flags I see. But it makes me wonder if those people more have attached to the conservative use of the confederate flag rather than the symbol of southern pride and actually being from there.

I don't consider Oklahoma as part of the South as I'm sure most Oklahomans don't either.

To be fair, many people in the south think the same thing about LA

Maybe the deep, coonass part. But north LA is definitely prototypical southern rednecks. (I mean that in a good way)

I don't count all of florida or all of VA.

Yes, I know my MS Paint skills are on fleek

Crank Florida up to jacksonville and that's a spot on map.

yea Eastern Shore is the same way and so is central PA.

And whenever I drive 20 miles south of DC on 95 I start seeing them more and more too

I think it's used to symbolize being proud of redneck culture or something
