Although smaller, Jxn, MS is much worse.
Absolutely, but it also isn’t sitting at the mouth of the MS river.

Jackson is what New Orleans would be if it wasn’t for the port.

It’s not 1890. New Orleans isn’t a major American city anymore.

It’s not the economic driver the state of Louisiana needs it to be. It hasn’t been for decades.

And in a world where Jackson and Gary (IN) exists, it won’t be the most dysfunctional mid sized city. But it’s marching fast in that direction.

When the old money starts leaving New Orleans….that’s when you know it’s really hopeless.

That hasn’t happened yet. At least not in a big way.

Didn't read past page 1, but San Fran is the worst IMO. Liberals don't believe in taking care of property or homeless.

I wouldn’t really call New Orleans a major city.

The fact NOLA has a metro of 1.2M and sits at the mouth of the Mississippi River is enough for it to be considered a major city. It would likely be double that size if they had even semi-competent leadership over the last half century.

California in particular has a demo time bomb already lit. Its being overwhelmed with poverty.

Was the Bay Area right earlier this week. Have to go there every few weeks.

It’s so much worse than it was 5 years ago. The change from before Covid is astounding. Something happened that made dealing with crime, open drug markets, and homelessness politically impossible here. And to add to that - the lockdowns and restrictions have killed a lot of restaurants I used to like.

Old money hasn't left because they are floated by the "ins" they have that dominate economics in the city. If they jump somewhere else then they don't have any new viable biz because no one cares if they had a corner on all the ice making in New Orleans or some other shite.

I don't know man. Only so much square feet in the city. It's not ever going to look like Tokyo either.

Some of you are clinging to the 19the century. New Orleans has long been surpassed by Houston, Atlanta, Memphis, etc. Even Richmond and Columbus are larger now. And metro areas like Omaha, and Tulsa are catching up to it while New Orleans remains stagnant.

It’s not a major American city anymore. It’s a “has been” that’s struggling to manage a decline.

We might be able to make the argument that the Baton Rouge + New Orleans metro area constitutes a major market in some respects. But they really haven’t grown into each other yet. They don’t share a lot of major amenities like airports. But they do share the river, a growing industrial corridor, and they both contribute to the pro and collegiate sports teams.

There isn't the intestinal fortitude nor moral base left in American society to do what must be done..she is a dead man walking..

She will continue her captured crash course until near total collapse and further decay.

NOLA ..one of her many true sh!tty cities.

Aerospace at Michoud

Multiple refineries and petrochemical plants, albeit in Jefferson and Chalmette.

Several food processing factories like the coffee plant.

Sizable medical sector with multiple research hospitals.

All of this on top of having one of the largest ports in the nation.

Baltimore, St. Louis, Detroit and the other cities on the shite list are going to stay like they are forever. There is an antagonistic relationship between the poor and police. As long as that is the case, you're never going to get people in the hood or the trailer park to call the cops or give them information when something goes down.

I'm sure there's a way to change it, get more cops involved with community stuff, let the kids of the neighborhood see their face and whatnot, but that probably isn't going to happen. This is just going to be a problem for the foreseeable future

I guess people are struggling over what's a major city and what isn't. What are the qualifiers?

Doesn't meet the criteria as far as size, population, large biz hq's, etc... It does host quite a bit of big events and have NFL and NBA franchises which would be hard to do if you aren't a major city.
