Is Mt. Rushmore in danger?

With the presidents depicted on the mountain, and the history of the rock in regards to natives, is this place about to meet sticks of dynamite?

I wouldn't worry too much. They're just going to carve over Washington, Jefferson, and Teddy with Mao, Lenin, and Stalin respectively.

Yes. The mob has already gone after statues of all 4 of those men.

Are there black people in South Dakota? If so, I can't imagine that they truly GAF.

I mean, the land is sits on was stolen from the Sioux by the US Government after gold was discovered nearby.

It's safe as long as Stone Mountain is around.

Stolen? Or conquered? Did the Sioux give back the land to the people who were there before them? If you don't have the ability (or inclination) to defend your territory, it won't be yours long.

Well, the US Supreme Court said the US seized the Black Hills from the Lakota illegally. They said this way back in 1980.
So...it was stolen.

The Sioux were given the Black Hills area in the Treaty of 1868. A few years later, gold was discovered in the Black Hills and we took it back from them. It lead to the Battle at Wounded Knee. The Sioux refer to it as the Wounded Knee Massacre.

Thank god it’s in South Dakota. If it were in California or Washington it would’ve been sandblasted the day after Pope George Floyd went on to heaven.

I'm not a self-loathing heritage hating person at all. Not even close. But I think we can acknowledge the systematic manipulation and fricking-over that the US and state governments pulled on the Native Americans in this country. I don't think there is much debate there.

Yeah, I'm certainly not advocating for it being removed, as much as carvings in the side of a mountain can be removed. But at least a recognition that the land it sits on has a story behind it that isn't favorable to the US government would be nice. To its credit, when I visited Mt Rushmore in the late 80's, the museum there did touch on some of that history, but the construction of it was the primary focus.

Give all federal land (outside of bases) to natives and let them form their own nations, or at least their own states..

I look forward to the day when all liberals give all the real estate they own to the nearest Indian tribe.

Anything within 3 degrees of separation from slavery is in danger of being destroyed.
