Mardi Gras is more fun the more my attention goes from drinking to friends and family.

Yesterday we set up on Convention, had nephews, wife, mom, newly friended couple, and it was an AMAZING time. Most fun I’ve had in a while.

I feel sorry and laugh for you tards that think Mardi Gras in Nola only means hanging with the drunks in the quarter and watching parades on Canal lined 10 deep. Mardi Gras is a whole year of great events.

And for the parades, if you don't have friends houses to hit up for fried chicken, jambalaya, gumbo, and king cakes, etc, and then hitting the parade route with family and friends, well you aren't doing it right.

seems like it’s all a matter of ones perspective.

If you want to participate, then participate.

If you think it’s overrated, don’t go.

This type of thread is stupid. Everything is overrated if you don’t enjoy it- New Year’s Eve, the Super Bowl, LSU football, marriage, kids...

What’s the point of this thread? Are you looking for affirmation of your opinion? Who cares? Don’t partake if you don’t enjoy it.
Or do partake, if you find it fun. But trying to get likeminded people to agree with you on something as stupid as this is a waste of time. Go about your day and let those who enjoy it, enjoy it.

Oh God forbid. It was 2 other people, one a gay man the other amounted to a yat from the nint' ward type who got so drunk she puked her guts up for hours.

But thanks for the thought...….

It’s definitely overrated if you’re older than college aged. It’s still fun if you’ve got a good base uptown, but it’s exhausting.

The French quarter at Mardi Gras is fricking horrible. Carpet baggers buying beach ball sized beads thinking they’re cool, smelly crowds so thick you can’t move, etc.

frick the quarter at Mardi Gras.

Overrated— going to Lee circle or the quarter without a pot to piss in.

Underrated— knowing someone who lives on St. Charles ave where you can fire up the grill, drink some beer, and enjoy the parade.

Yeah, the 1.4 million visitors during Mardi Gras time really don't give a shite about it. They must be just coming in to visit the historic churches while gearing up for Ash Wednesday. It's not for everybody, but the out-of-state people that visit seem to really love it.

This weekend uptown was great. We had a pack of kids playing, enjoyed a drink or two, grilling, cigars, laughing, every kid caught a ton. Mardi Gras in the quarter is not for faint of heart, but being uptown for two days, the weekend before the tourist barrage is greatness.

I like the country Mardi gras. Crowds are much less and just trashy enough to be fun.

I'm definitely not going stand 20 deep on the side of the road for some beads.

I've never been. Are you guaranteed to see multiple sets of tits or is that aspect exaggerated.

For what it's worth, at 42, nothing sounds less appealing than standing in a crowd of people, nearly motionless from being so packed in, and trying to enjoy myself. It's got to be tough to get drinks, take a leak, or actually check out the whole scene. A hotel room balcony? I'd be all over that.

Packed and trashy starts next weekend. This weekend was great and not trashy at all. Go uptown, the closer to the start of the route the better.

I went once, glad I experienced it, no desire to go again. I'll wake up with a clear head Wednesday morning and have a juicy steak that night.

This. Wife and I have been discussing renting out the house for triple the cost of a trip somewhere for the week. Work wise, nothing gets done and we are riverside st Charles inside Nap so it’s a PIA to get anywhere. I have opportunities to ride but depends on how I feel.

IMO, a lot of people think Mardi Gras is just Bourbon st. They haven’t experienced the neighborhood vibes where we walk up to the parade route and walk home. It can be chill or wild AF, either or I can walk back to my house.

I love Mardi Gras. But it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and if you’re not really into it, it can get old quick. I don’t really see many tourists generally or anyone puking in the streets where I watch the parades but I don’t it happens a lot more the closer you get to downtown
