They actually did some brick work at the ground level for that one and it looks nice now. The fake trees are the funny ones

Yes, you are leaving Louisiana. That's a huge plus right there alone.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. I hunt around that area. Jackson is bad but it's no worse than Baton Rouge

Hattiesburg might not be the best, but it’s damn sure better than NO or BR for a family. I don’t know anything about Olive Branch or Ocean Springs but they are all probably better than everything south of the Lake.

Hattiesburg is a gross accumulation of strip malls and chain restaurants with zero personality, not my bag at all.

I’ve always thought that Madison, Hattiesburg, Olive Branch and Ocean Springs are the most desirable places to live in MS.

Hattiesburg and Olive Branch are...unique choices to put here. Hernando is nicer than Olive Branch and much better schools and a safer community. Oxford is unequivocally the nicest college town in MS - even though I have to put up with pretentious UM fans. Their women are definitely better and easier.

I did some work in Clinton Miss several years ago and it seemed to be a much better place than Prairieville or Baton Rouge.

Does Prairieville really have anything else to offer besides cheaper real estate and not being in Baton Rouge?

My kids aren’t school age yet

you are at the age to chase dollars with little else to concern yourself with. babysitters may be an issue, but you can figure that out.

If Madison is "boring", but you will be making more money....can you afford a summer home/camp?

Personally, make the move in a heartbeat. You have time to locate the school of your choosing. Move at that time if it is necessary. schooling is the priority at that point in life. Money should be the priority now.

just my humble opinion. good luck.

Clinton is pretty bc it’s on the Natchez Trace. It’s a nice town but you’re still in Hinds County and the riff raff is taking it over.

Hattiesburg has a lot of great locally owned restaurants. The only people that think like you do are the ones that don't get far off the interstate exits

Hattiesburg isn’t bad and has some fantastic neighborhoods. I just don’t like the layout of the city and it has the worst traffic in the state.

have heard Madison is more liberal than other parts of Mississippi. Is this true?

Negative ghostrider. Madison is a hard core law and order town, it's not a place you want to frick around and find out. Long time mayor and she don't put up with shite nor care if she is labeled a racist, etc. Just to the north of Madison, there is Gluckstadt, which is also a good place to live, there have been some recent issues at the high school in Gluckstadt (Germantown High).

Belhaven and Fondren in Jxn are the white liberal enclaves.

Jackson and the surrounding metro is surprisingly more liberal than the rest of the state, with the exception of Rankin County.

Not Madison, the City. The biggest drain on Madison County is Canton, which is a mini Jackson. Demographics in Ridgeland are slowly changing, but it is still solidly republican.

Long range, 50ish years down the road, changing demographics may doom most of the Jxn burbs, but Madison, the City will be the last to fall.

Yes.

Jackson proper sucks. Suburbs like Madison? Very nice.

I’m sure you’re from the area. I live in Brandon. Ridgeland has changed and I would never move there. Madison is safe from the encroachment I agree.

When it comes to personal politics, in my experience, the people there are surprisingly more liberal minded. One of my kids went to Prep and it was obvious when speaking to parents. Also from my experiences at courthouses. Rankin County has nothing to worry about imo. That culture is strong when it comes to law and order. Flowood PD buffers Brandon from Jackson and it’s one of the most strict departments in the state. Pearl may be kind of a dump but you won’t find more strict criminal sentences anywhere in the state

What issues are going on at Germantown HS?? Generally curious. I live right down the street and haven't heard that before.

To OP, can't go wrong with Madison or Gluckstadt area. Lots of development going on in Gluckstadt right now opening restaurants, entertainment, etc. I recommend the west side of I-55 if you look in Gluckstadt. Everything is newer and nicer looking on the west side, especially the roads. Yandell road sucks, the only reason I go over that way is bc that is where the best golf course for your money is.
