Rednecks. All of NorthLA, Most of CenLA, areas around BR, all areas above north shore, areas north of Lake Chuck.

Louisiana is neither. We have some poor, more middle class and some high class. Rural areas have the poor and middle. 1/3 of the state is black. You do the math.

I'm about 90% Italian from NOLA, and everywhere I go, people think I'm Cajun.

Coonassses reside in maybe a third of the state and they're not even the majority there.

This. Mostly just that it’s evolved into a recognizable and appreciated culture in many ways. And much more widespread.

A bit uncharitable, but probably not entirely inaccurate. At least, at one time.

I find the Baton Rouge area to be far more redneck than coonass. Heck it's less coonass than Lake Chuck, which is more SE Texas than Louisiana.

When I moved to br I was surprised at the more traditional southern accent.

I am a coonass by birth. But I don’t have an accent at all. Moved around too much.

Isn’t redneck the umbrella which multiple classifications fall under?

I’ve had this happen also. They really think it’s a racist like the n word or something.

Also had a yank try to say that redneck was just a southern thing and that there’s not rednecks in upstate NY.

You have to understand the folkways of the state. South Louisiana was settled from the coast in. North Louisiana, with a few exceptions, was settled from the east. Mobile, Biloxi, and Pensacola have more in common, historically and culturally, with South Louisiana than North Louisiana does.

I’d even throw southeast Tx in that group. Definitely Beaumont
