why wouldn't a school be proud of their test scores?

Particularly a private school which people have to choose to pay for voluntarily. Most private schools advertise which is all this really is.

Money does not equal intelligence.

Parental involvement and rigorous academics do.

Zachary should stop pimping its high ratings because it damned sure isn't full of poor kids.

Zachary schools causing melts on the OT. It use to be the MSB - State championships in football and baseball. WM, CHS-BR, Tuerlings, Central, LP schools. All acting like a bunch of A&M fans on the SEC Rant.

I have no dog in the fight, but I don’t see why Catholic can’t be proud of their scores without some other schools coach getting all pissy about it. I mean, it’s not like Catholic called out Zachary.

If you don’t want to be offended, then raise your scores.

Life is all about comparison.

I don’t understand why people get butthurt over this.

Privileged people do have a leg up and have an easier route many times.

I would hope Catholic students have higher test scores than special needs kids

Gold medal winners in the Special Olympics of testing.

Those are some very solid scores. I just don't get the dick measuring against school systems that are required (by BESE mandate) to test most of their special needs students.

Congrats to the young men at Catholic for their success.
They should post them imho.

How many Zachary students are special needs? I went to Central which I think is a fairly comparable public school to Zachary. I don't remember a bunch of poor or special needs kids. It's a slice of the local community - some poor, some rich and mostly middle class.

I would imagine that it wouldn't take many single digit scores to skew the average.

I graduated from CHS and doubt the entire football team is contributing to those test scores.

But not every student at CHS is the richest or most privileged.

I’m sure the poor kids at Zachary are thankful that their coach has such low expectations for them.

His tweet reminds me of the YouTube video of Cal Berkeley students saying voter ID laws are racist because blacks don’t know how to use the Internet and can’t find the DMV.

I used to be a teacher at a school district in the Northern DFW suburbs (district was super diverse across class and race). The wealthier kids were better students for the most part. The only high performing poorer students came from immigrant families (usually Asian). Wealthier kids tended to have a better work ethic and parental support. I dont know what socioeconomic factors cause this but it's a fact.

I don't know. It's absolutely dumb that we make all kids take the act to begin with. It negatively skews the scores.

BRHS has an average score of 25.8. LHS, 23. I'd like to know the average scores of the Catholic and other non-public schools.

Maybe it’s because wealthy people for the most part are pretty intelligent and intelligent people normally have kids that are the same way?

People who are successful (usually) value education, immigrant families oftentimes also value education. It’s pretty simple to see the correlation there.

Poor people are often poor because they either didn’t, or don’t care about education. People who are poor, yet value education, usually have children who perform well, too.

schools have plenty of kids that are going to score low on the ACT that Catholic wouldn't ever come close to admitting to their school.

CHS will accept any young man who wants an education. That young man will have to conform to the process but will be welcomed.

For those that can’t afford and want part of the CHS, the generous alumni will find a way for any young man. Partial and full funding available.

Louisiana does now. It's kind of dumb for kids that have no intention of pursuing a secondary education. Most probably go in, guess, make a 14 and skew the whole average down.
