I mean, he is explaining his situation. All of you people ask WHY WHY WHY and then when people give you a why, it isn't good enough. If you have other alternatives, awesome. Some people don't.
Some people's kids are raised almost completely by daycare and they're happy with that. Some people have parents to take care of the kids. Some people work from home and can do both. And so on.
It's almost as if we are all individual people with individual lifestyles.

So women can only either work or have kids?

SO only momo stays at home or various day cares are the only options?
Please read my reply again. If you still come back with the same questions then I can't help you.

The only person you had on your sid was godlennugget in that thread. Think about that for a second.

You think only the way your family did it works. That's just ignorant.

He's also limiting women to only one of two roles. Not sure why you have a problem with me pointing that out, given your gender.

32/33, she'll be even more adamant about her not wanting children. Unless she wakes up one day and decides she hates practicing law, no longer wants to be a partner at her firm
Are you saying she's going to be a partner at the firm at the age of 32/33? Or she'll be working towards it?

I'm just trying to prepare him for when his wife comes home one day in 5 years and says "I want a baby"

Pecker I think you've largely been reasonable in this thread
I can't attest for the true assholes, but for some of us, if it seems like we're mocking or laughing at you, we're really just amused because we've seen exactly what you're describing, and have seen the most common end result.

you're almost 30?
because some of the shite you post reads like a 23 year old graduate that just starting their first job last month and wants so desperately to sound important
I'm 28.
I don't know how I'm trying to "sound important." I'm answering the questions I'm being asked.

this
and I'll hand it to LL because at one time she was the main one in these threads and she hasn't changed her views yet...although she is still young...
although that a-hole SO of hers might be drying up soon

I don't even have kids (yet), I've just watched a ton of fierce independent women do radical 180s in the last 3-4 years on this very subject, so it's just amazing how natural inclinations work

kinda like you go on an amazing vacation or an awesome restaurant and tell your friends about it, and they say "nah, not for me, sounds awful", its human nature to defend or push them to go
I agree however it is kind of dickish to harp on it once you hear their reasons. As a parent I might be curious as to why a couple doesn't want kids but I wouldn't presume to lecture them that they will change their minds or their life is shallow. Probably because I don't think that at all, I totally get why someone isn't interested in having kids.
However it is kind of a downer when you find out a good friend has no intention of having kids because it usually means the end of the relationship. In my experience while I would gladly be inclusive of a child-free couple into my growing family, it doesn't work that way on their end. They don't want my kids, they only want me. They don't want our relationship to evolve past adults only socializing. They complain when kids are sometimes brought along to lunch or that parties always have kids. You are expected to accept their choice but they don't really accept that your life/priorities change because of your choices. At that point it is just easier to foster relationships with other parents who will be inclusive of your kids.
TL;DR- They don't live my life, I don't live theirs. You do you.

Signed, the SO of a formerly "atypical" female big law associate on partnership track who now dreams of a life of domestication
It certainly happens. Like I said, things can change. If I had a gun to my head and were forced to bet on whether or not she'd want kids in 5 years... there'd be no hesitation. As unlikely as it is that she'd want to change careers, it's exponentially less likely that she'll start liking children and want to have them. Could happen though.
