Some of these guys on the other bench, however...we’re talking the 3 piece suit wearing, clipboard carrying, barking at the kids types. I can think of at least 3 of these jokers who clearly seemed to think they were Roy Williams.

OP gives me that impression.
you are comparing me, someone who is employed to coach teenagers basketball, to a 3rd grade pee wee team. That's rich

If you have players who aren't self-motivated then you just need new players. Sometimes will is more important than talent.

Making them do extra physical work is just punishment for the sake of punishment. It doesn't actually hone their skills and help them become better free throw shooters.

Figure out if it's mental or physical then go from there. Maybe if you want them to be better free throw shooters you should maybe, I don't know, make them shoot 30 free throws in a row over and over again until they don't miss one. How is practicing the 5K going to help them get better at shooting a basketball into a hoop

It doesn't work that way.

"Would you persuade, speak of interest not of reason."

Give them a reason well, that's in their own best interest, to want to win, first. If that doesn't work then they are not cut out for competition.

Like I said, get new players.

You can't make a person want to be a winner. You can only convince them that it's in their own best interest.

Did they tank their free throws? I don't see how running them to fatigue does anything but put more pressure on the free-throw shooters.

the idea is that running sucks. If they don't want to run they should get to where they dont miss free throws. The way you do that is practicing free throws and not just when coach (me) makes you during practice. It gives them incentive to go out on their own and get better

Teach them two ways to shoot fts.

Use search

1. Indiana. 76% is typical.
2. Rick Barry style. He has videos.
He led both nba and aba in ft%.
90-something.

See how he did it. Teach it.

can make them run a suicide for every free throw they miss in practice and we can do that for the whole hour

what a waste.

At least practice full court press.

I'm going to help you.

You must chart the results of practice.

As soon as you do performance will improve.

And really learn the reasons why Indiana has a high floor.
You can't mess up the form. It's rigid.

High ceiling for Rick Barry.

quantify for us.

80% in practice?
Or same as game?

And put the top 5 from each days practice on.whiteboard for all to see.

And learn the Indiana.
And learn under handed.
Show them you can learn it too.

You need to read up on how to teach regular free throws, Indiana and under handed.

No one appreciates your idea of running them. Not one poster. Teach.

Sounds like you should make them shoot free throws all day Monday.

For clarification for those who dont want to read the thread. We already practice free throws every day with music at the end of practice. You think I havent tried covering all these bases already?

Well, apparently then, you're just a bad coach.
