My recollection is that the picture you posted is mostly real. The fake part is the "boyfriend" part. It was really this person's wife that got him the Nintendo.
All in all, I think this is a pretty good send-up of the man-child, basement-dwelling culture of today's young adults. The guy in the picture is feigning happiness (and maybe he's really got himself fooled) at the fact that his wife has rewarded him with a child's toy for mutilating his genitalia. Presumably he never anticipates being able to provide for a child and works at some low-stress / low-value job, due to lack of skill or lack of ambition.
The fact that not even Reddit would buy this guy's shite is pretty revealing.
