Is having a bugout vehicle for an apocalypse type situation as useful as it seems?

On one hand, an older vehicle with little to no electronics would be effectively impervious to EMP compared to our modern machines.

On the other, if you are the only person with a working vehicle there are going to be people trying almost constantly to kill you so that they can steal it.

How do you drive the thing and not have someone snipe you through the window?

Just to get you to the shelter of last resort, provided you have one.

I have a bicycle with a basket on the front to carry my ammo and chow.

No

You’re going to die in an apocalypse situation regardless, and even if you don’t, your life will sick

EMP would still blow out the blinkers so you can’t signal your turns. Nothing I hate more than someone who doesn’t use their blinkers... Don’t be an a-hole while driving during the apocalypse, not worth it

It’s pointless to maintain one. You can’t drive it for the first 6 months until most people die and things calm down. By then you can just go out looking for one while you go house to house looking for opiates.

I don’t keep a vehicle like that. After the apocalypse if I need a vehicle like that, I’ll wait to see one, shoot the driver, and take it.

Oh, and did you know gasoline doesn’t last forever? It goes bad, even in an old timey vehicle.

If you have the correct weapons you just take what you need, right?

I'm stockpiling toilet paper instead.

It will be like gold if anyone survives

At least he wouldn’t be able to use his hazards in a rain storm.

Hoovie's garage did an episode about this. He stated that some 1980s era mercedes diesel would be the best car.

He claimed these could get started somehow by like pushing them (even if the electronics are all fried).

He also made the argument that the use of gasoline on The Walking Dead was unrealistic as gas doesn't last that long. He claimed diesel fuel will last much longer.

No idea if any of what he said was true.

The car he claims to be the best is the Mercedes 240D. In the video he starts it without the battery or alternator plugged in.

What if isn't an EMP inspired apocalypse?

A Tesla with a solar charger would be nice.

Or just a bicycle.

If there is an apocalypse? Yes.

If there is not an apocalypse? Not so much.

It'll be great for getting you into the middle of the huge logjam of stalled vehicles, where your one tank of gas will run out. I'd rather have a bicycle, provided your ruthless and well armed enough to keep someone from taking It away from you.
