Seriously though, successful relationships need a foundation of communicating boundaries and compromising both ways. If you're with some chick and she will never budge on any position, yet is always asking you to move off yours, she definitely isn't worth marrying. That's just a selfish bitch.

this is most definitely not my situation. My wife gets mad and points to friends who seem to go about it this way and ask why I don't do that.

It’s a math equation for me. If she looks good act respectfully most of the time and has a nice 401K she will get more “ happy wife behavior”from me. If she brings very little to the table financially she will get much less. Just the way the world works.
