According to the Us Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI inflation calculator you would need to be making $51,000 in 2022 to have the same buying power.

and that would still be below that level in today's dollars, particularly in NYC

Yes, we do incentivize this shite, and it needs to stop.
Stop paying people not to work, and lock down the fricking border, and the problem solves itself.

In louisiana, the wages are just part of the problem. The taxation and licensing requirements for certain jobs are just absolutely ridiculous. Starting wages in the plumbing field have been around 10 to $12 an hour for the last 25 years. In that field you will not crack $20 an hour until you have your license. All while the people you work for charge $150 an hour. Most of them are too short-sighted to realize that if you pay good people fair wages, you can make a whole lot more money.

The problem with no medical is that one major health issue could absolutely sink you. And you'll start needing it more as you age. Could you afford it on your own?

No 20 year old cares about benefits, and they don’t need them. They need $$$$. Have you seen how expensive rent is?

You drunk? You made $51,000 a year in todays dollars

The current worker today in NYC actually makes $31,200 a year

You made 66% more in relative earning power. Now do you see why you sound so out of touch in here?

The way the 401k's are going under this administration I would take the money and run. If you are in good physical shape then make the money now then maybe down the road settle back down to a job with better benefits. BTW are you married or have kids?

It's not just 777 with this mindset, it's a large portion of the boomers.

Tim Pool recently hit on the subject that Millenials are the first generation to be poorer than their parents.

Between inflation and the increases in the minimum wage nationally and in many areas, $15/hr ain’t what it used to be.

$7 was minimum wage until recently and it is around $10 nationally now and closer to $15 in many markets.

Whenever the minimum wage goes up, it means that the wage necessary to get anything above dregs goes up a few dollar an hour above that.

If someone isn’t in a position with growth potential or just desperately in need of an initial job to get experience, those jobs aren’t appealing and it is better to stay flexible until you find something you want.

You can see it as being unrealistic by the potential employees but if you aren’t paying them enough to consider you over McDonald’s, you aren’t going to be getting many great choices.

I made the equivalent of 40k in today's dollars with a stem degree in 2000. I had no vehicle note or student loans.

I didn't make that much for long and it was enough for me to live on but I was sort of just scraping by. I wouldn't have been able to afford living by myself if I'd have had a bunch of student loans. Thanks pops

In a warehouse? Wtf does any of this have to do with warehouse work? $15/hr and the benefits listed is just right for the job noted. It's not much of a leap from flipping burgers.

Entry-level is still Entry-level

$1500 in todays dollars is about $4100, don't give a shite what a current worker in NYC makes today, a garbage truck driver in NYC was making $50k/year at that time, I also had an engineering degree and knew how to fly jets, not out of touch at all, I can truthfully say I've "been there, done that," I just didn't whine about it and curse the generations before me for my lot in life, I grabbed life by the arse and ran with it and it has been one hell of a ride, this has been fun baws, good discussion, best to everyone, I have to go pressure wash my deck....unless anyone of yous baws want to do it for $20/hr.
