I only carry when doing real estate business in less than desirable locations. That is the only reason I got my CHP, and have no desire to carry in the presence of my young kids.

Like everything else in life, you weigh the risk vs reward and decide what fits you best.

Incredible insight. Yes, concealed carry folks typically wear skin tight clothes. You must be some kind of genius I tell you.

I was referring to your need to let us know about your savior complex..Odds are actually pretty good that you'll be the loser we read about shooting themselves or letting a kid get their weapon..

Absolutely not

It's a realization that the police are not here to protect you.

Do you think that everyone should carry?

I think everyone should do what they feel is best for themselves. I don't care if you do or don't, but I'm not saying people that don't are fools or anything like that either.

As a Texas Ranger once told me - An armed society is a polite society.

I think the idea that more CC's equals more violence is a myth.

Ok, I've always had a 1st aid kit in my car and I've never needed to use it. Doesn't mean I shouldn't carry one. I just don't see how adding a layer of protection to yourself or your family is having a pessimistic view of the world. Hell, I'm sure you have a fire extinguisher in your house. What are the chances that your house could potentially catch fire? Probably pretty minuscule.

Ok. I guess conceal carry takes things to a higher level. While I perceive life to be just dangerous and random enough to carry a spare tire, life insurance, a first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher, I don't presently consider it dangerous enough to carry a firearm daily as a general rule. I recognize that outlook does change given particular locations, however.

I'm no doubt, worried about other people coming to cause trouble so I lock my doors...I didn't say I don't carry, I simply back the OP idea that its not needed 24/7

It's one thing to be pessimistic. It's another to recognize and acknowledge that there are people in this world who do not place a high enough value on human life. Having a cc doesn't mean that person is waiting for a chance to legally kill someone, it merely means they recognize danger exists and prepare accordingly. This is especially important for people at a higher risk of being victims (live in dangerous neighborhoods or women)

That sounds perfectly reasonable. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Life is typically about mitigating risk and carrying is part of that. I just don't agree that it's having a pessimistic view of the world.

Who knows- but does it even matter?

It shouldn't be hard to accept the general idea that dangerous shite bags are a reality.

I get that, but I wonder if that's a different conversation: Individual vs. government protection.

seems like OP acknowledges this, but is more concerned about the guy who wears it on his hip to Walmart just because he can..I see guys in there all the time that would probably eat a bullet if shite got real, but there they are with those pistols on their hip, just in case

I guess, I have a pessimistic view of society, because I think the majority of people are stupid and I don't trust them with guns around me.

I would feel much less safe if I knew every idiot around me had a gun on them.

There is no domestic government protection for an individual

It's 100% up to you.
