Summary of 3 Studies

quote:

Injury rate from CrossFit training was 22.8% lower than injury rates reported in track and field athletes.

quote:

Injury rates were similar between groups of soldiers who participated in the ATAC ECPs and groups of soldiers who participated in traditional army PT.

quote:

CrossFit injury rates were similar to those in other recreational fitness activities.

Yes, there are plenty of idiots that do crossfit as there are in any other exercise regimen. Those are usually the guys who just go to open gym so there is no one there to correct them. However, any quality crossfit-type gym will have quality coaches who will instruct the members in movement standards and how to scale weight, reps and range of motion. It's a whole different thing than it was 10 years ago.

What part? The older you get, the less high impact most folks likely need to do. I was in a CF cult for a while, the injures, that required medical treatment, for 40s/50s were numerous.

That's not what I'm arguing. Once you get past instruction, and start doing AMRAP work, for instance, the coaches can't watch everyone. EMOM deadlifts, etc. I'll pulling when I'm good and ready, when I have my breath right, etc. Most people are run by the clock. They get injured, I don't (mostly.)

Damn, man this is kinda depressing. Sounds like you got to spend some quality time together though. Cheers, buddy.

Nah. We just know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

If you started going, be sure to attend with your spouse. And if you attend, you better stay on the same level.

Also, avoid private lessons.

Facts. I do AMRAP and EMOM stuff quite a bit, but I keep the weight low low low if I even use weight. I do tons of body weight stuff. If you're combining AMRAP and EMOM workouts while also always trying to up the weight it's really just a question of when you will get injured and how bad.

However, past 40 (which I am, slightly) it's really question of "when and how bad" regardless. I hurt myself going on easy three milers or just doing dead hang pullups sometimes. Such is life getting older.

CrossFit over 40 is still way way way better than getting sedentary. Just gotta be careful and and don't be scared to modify the workouts.

I hear ya. Me and my wife are very happy, but I think not letting her do the things she loves would cause her to cheat before letting her do those things would.

Obviously there are plenty non cheating couples at CrossFit. But there are also a ton of couples who join in their 30s/40s after getting kind of dumpy or overweight, and then only one of them ends up really sticking with the gym. Then you have ONE of them who ends up getting fit and attractive while the other one retreats back to the couch. Combine that with other people in the gym in the same situation along with the fact that CrossFit also has a large social aspect to it (more than a regular box gym where people tend to just put headphones on and get through their workout and then leave). I've seen it with people I know or friends of friends time and time again.

Haven’t read through this thread, but I’m guessing it’s a bunch of out of shape OTers mocking a workout routine.
