Stop trying to do so and start trying to figure out how to not need it instead.

Get married before having kids, and stay married once you have them.

Consider home schooling and arranging work schedules to accomodate.

Go back to a multi-generational approach to family so that you are near grandparents who can help out.

Basically, stop depending on strangers to raise your kids for you and be more responsible about having kids in the first place.

I made it sharper by having a stay at home wife. I wasn’t interested in paying someone to raise our children.

$19k a year for our 2 kids

One is 14 months, shite is 13k for just her

3 year old is in Pre-K three at a catholic school and its only 6k.

Thankfully we can send our other there once she hits 18 months

After school care isn't much better. Kids get out and stay at after school care for approximately 45 minutes to an hour till we can get there to pick them up. Cost approximately $600 a month for two kids.

My suggestion would be for teachers to run an after school program at the school. Teachers can make a little bit of extra money to stay at the school for an extra hour or two watching kids play on the playground and do homework and not be an outrageous price.

I don’t think daycare is expensive because people are greedy. It’s expensive because it’s labor-intensive and heavily regulated. Ratios alone cap productivity. You can’t "scale" toddlers.

We looked at daycare and ended up using Go Au Pair instead. It didn’t reduce the system cost of childcare, but it changed how the cost was distributed. One caregiver for a household instead of a facility with overhead.

I have 3 kids, my oldest having just turned 5. I pay $4k/month in daycare and will get a break starting in September. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have a decent career so we are super lucky.

This is a big reason why people delay and say they can’t afford kids.

We have 4 and one due in March. Wife owns her own business works one day a week makes a lil change but I think it's mostly for the social aspect. We homeschool our kids. The first problem we had with daycare was that we didn't want someone else rasing our kids. There's always those crazy abuse allegations and stories and before kids can talk you'll have no idea what goes on. We felt for us homeschool (garbage schools in our area) and her being home for the most part were the best options for us.

Multi generational households should be the norm. Not the exception.

My children are precious to me. I cannot fathom “cheap” daycare. I want quality and willing to pay for the best that I can afford. I don’t want “teachers” and aids who can’t find anything else to do. And while I do want oversight, I don’t want gov overreach. In a perfect USA, there would be great gov ran daycare that are maintained and paid for by our taxes, but we know how that goes.

Do people not realize that government subsidizing daycare in some form, whether through tax benefits or outright monetary subsidies, will just make daycare more expensive? Common sense...

90% of people can't afford that shite. I paid $1000 per month years ago when my ex decided to go back to work. For the first 10 years she stayed home to raise the kids. When my daughter turned 11 to 12 , I took them out of daycare. She was old enough to look out for her brother until her mom got home.

$4k a month, the baby sitter better be giving me blow jobs every day at minimum.

I thought child care costs were included in the child care tax credits….

This isn’t society’s problem. This is a the parent’s problem. The sooner we quit expecting “society” to pay for everyone else’s shite, the better we will be.

The cost should be fully tax deductible up to a % of income. The code already acknowledges through a credit that you should get a tax break to the extent of earned income (ie it is necessary for parents to make money), but it maxes out far too quickly

Honestly, not advocating for change but just doing a logic test, property taxes should cover daycare more so than HS. Early development is much more important than HS where kids are starting to make their own decisions. HS is wasted on way too many.

How about eliminating the need for daycare by changing the tax structure to allow one parent to stay home and raise the children?
