it's a different kind of bullying
Posted on 2/17/14 at 8:31 pm to Buddy Garrity
Never saw much bullying in any of the private or public schools I went to. Only time I can remember was in 6th grade

Stupid answer, I realize looking back. There is a lot of physical bullying in public school, but im sure there is racism and hazing in private schools too. Indian acquaintance ( he is obnoxious)was stuffed in a locker and punched at episcopal
. Question for private school Oters, was the lone black or Asian kid bullied at your school?

I went to a boarding school that is now 40k 2/semesters, 14k back in 1990.
There was hazing not really bullying (worse then bullying). But it was cool because you could pass it down to the new boys.
Went to a public school in middle school and the private school was worse.

hmmm... I went to public school from K-8th grade but then went to a Catholic high school.
there was a lot more fighting at public schools but I definitely noticed a lot more pretentious assholes at my high school.
there were a lot of cliques.
I think the only reason I fit in is because I was alright at football.
I actually felt sorry for a number of kids at our school. Not because they were bullied necessarily but because they were outcasts.

There were no black students in my class in elementary school. I only remember maybe one or two in the entire school. I think there were a few asians. I don't remember them being treated any differently really. One guy was a loner, but I think that was just his personality. I could be wrong.
In high school, it seemed like the black students kind of quarantined themselves to a corner of the commons for the most part during break and lunch. That kind of seemed sort of self imposed though. They mixed between us at will it seemed. A lot of the asians were accomplished academically. That sort of thing was celebrated at my school. If anything people were going to get more respect for being smart.
I think that there were probably less racial problems than some public schools. In part this is probably because things were a lot more homogenous, especially in elementary school. I went to kind of a large high school, so it was just easy to get lost in the crowd. Of course there going to be one or two dickhead, but it was easy to avoid them if you wanted. Just go find some niche.

There's possibly more teasing in private schools, but there's certainly more physical bullying in public schools.

"There was no bullying in my school." Look at all the bullies in this thread.

I went to private K-6 and public 7-12. I never really got bullied much, but saw a lot more of it happen in public school

Wrong. All girls school was the least "catty" environment I've ever been in.

I went I a 2A private school so I can't speak for the bigger ones. Everyone picked on everyone and we all would hang out.
The public school I went to was 5A and they had the same amount of "bullying" but everyone wasn't friends so it seemed like it was worse. People did the same shite to people they didn't know as they did to people they were friends with. Bullying is all about how the person handles it, IMO.
Yes, some cases are more extreme, but a lot of the times it's someone taking something too personal. Bc it happens to just about everyone.

I went to public and most of the time and especially after sophomore year everyone in our class was pretty tight nobody really made fun of anybody out of hate. Just to joke around.

The answer is clearly public schools. The kids at private schools are generally raised better and come from more structured homes. Public, meh... OFcourse it's not all trash but it is public=free. Oh, and I'm only referring to public/private schools in my home town. I'm sure things could be a bit different elsewhere.

They are the same, kids are kids no matter where you go, the powerful will always bully the weak.
Posted on 2/18/14 at 6:56 am to Jazzbass13
It goes on every where and always has. Only difference now, people have stopped standing up to the bullies and making them stop now just cry about it.
