BR traffic isn't all that terrible, but the poor planning that lead to it magnifies the frustration. Add in a dose of "nothing of significance being done to fix it" and a side of "you're right, we should add more developments on already busy thoroughfares (Rouzan/District on Perkins) and you have yourself a maddening situation.

I'm telling you guys, just avoid living where people are dependent on a single interstate (I-10) and you'll be fine.
The northeastern part of the parish isn't that bad. I live in central and rarely have to deal with clusterfricked traffic unless I'm going into South Baton Rouge.
eta: if you're just passing through BR then sorry. People here have chosen to make the interstate our main highway and we now spend 95% of our gas tax revenues on plugging holes in our state budgets.
The northeastern part of the parish isn't that bad. I live in central and rarely have to deal with clusterfricked traffic unless I'm going into South Baton Rouge.

True, and you have a good public school system now.
Couple that with the new thruway and upgrade of Sullivan (which is almost done and things are looking up.
Too bad SBR doesn't have a good school system like Central and then families wouldn't have to motor down I-10 or I-12.

That stupid arse half a billion dollar worthless bridge in St. Francisville sure could have been better utilized in Geismar.
The city absolutely needs a route cutting from Port Allen off of 10, crossing the river into Geismar, going through Gonzales and up to Lilvingston to connect to 12. Make 18 wheelers not stopping in Baton Rouge take the loop.
You take the 18 wheelers off 12 and traffic would be much better.
This is the best alternative, and it should get done, but it never will b/c we have idiots running this state. Always have, always will.

frick you. We love having an alternate route across the river up here. Sorry your politicians were too short-sighted or stupid or inept, etc. to take the bridge when it was offered, but you had a shot at it and let it pass.

A continuous stretch along that route would trim an hour off the route truckers have to go currently.
Anybody saying that traffic isn't that bad in Baton Rouge must not have lived in a city at least comparable in size. Traffic is horrific here. It's not the fact that there's traffic. It's that traffic is stagnant like pond water. In other cities, you at least move.

So a truck going from Port Allen to Livingston would save an hour by going south to Geismar than back up through Port Vincent area to get to Livingston?

Most truck traffic is headed to I-12. You can't tell me routing them through Geismar is a better route
