Is arguing in general frowned upon in today's society?

I either get called narcissistic or chastised for arguing with peers. Are people today just really just massive pussies who can't handle their reasoning being critiqued?

Maybe you're just terrible at arguing.
People love to argue. It's almost unheard of that people will admit when they are wrong, though. They'll just drop it or change the argument. I don't think that's new.

How do you come up with this conclusion?
I'm always composed and well mannered when i begin an argument with someone. The point after i prove the person wrong i tend to not let up. Gotta learn to let up on the gas sometimes i suppose

If you're always driving the other person to emotional breakdown or to the brink of violence, you're definitely doing something wrong.
People who are not good at debate simply hammer their opponent into submission. That isn't necessarily winning, if the goal is to convince them to change their view or opinion.

I can't think of a time when society has been more argumentative than it has been now. We love a good argument, we just go to more extreme arguments to support our points.

Realistically, most people you meet at school or out and about are just blind to logic. Not everyone is going to respond well to an argument that questions their intelligence.

Most people are terrible at debating, especially when it comes to politics or a social issue. They immediately resorts to ridiculous emotional arguments.

Nah it's more of "I reject your reality and substitute my own" from most people. It's tiresome but if it doesn't truly affect my life I let them walk around in ignorance, I have better things to expend energy on.

There are three things I always consider before even starting a debate (not counting on this site).
1. Can the person be honest
2. Does the person respect me
3. Is this topic important (I.e. will "winning" benefit me in any way)
The answer to the first two must be yes. Otherwise, it's pointless.
