re: Is an MBA worth it

There are 3 ways, however, that an MBA can be valuable for you:
1. Your job will pay for you to get one. Education is always worth it when you're not paying for it.
2. Your employer promises you a promotion if you get one. Assuming it's a necessary step in your career track, it could be worthwhile to move up the chain.
3. Connections with classmates who go on to be more successful than you. Those successful classmates may end up being in the position to give you a job or be potential clients for your business.
I completed an MBA, paid it off in 6 months and have a much more rewarding job/career than I had pre-MBA. I think the degree has been valuable, but I don't fall into any of those 3 buckets. You can add career changers to the list. Also, many companies let MBA admissions identify the high potential candidates then go hire those graduates for high reward jobs. So the degree alone can open doors.

Where did you get your degree?

As long as the university is AACSB accredited, it's a good MBA degree

Any degree, MBA included, is basically a way to advertise to prospective employers.
If your MBA is from Harvard you'll gain access to the top - but be aware you will be expected to perform at the top. McKinsey is not known for celebrating work/life balance - work *is* life. OTOH you will be swimming in money.
IMHO it doesn't take much below that level where one can say "frick it, I'll just get my PMP".

Yeah, that's all you learn in grad school.

You paid off Kellogg in six months?

I'm surprised at the serious answers in such a troll thread.
I got mine in the exec program at Emory, company paid, and it's been valuable.

I borrowed the max federal loans, had a 30% scholarship and paid the rest out of pocket. I also did the full time program, so I was able to earn some money the summer between the 1st and 2nd years.

That's awesome. How easy was it to get the max loan? And what was your GMAT score, if you don't mind my asking?

Good for you.
I am there right now, and there is no way I'll be able to pay it off in six months after, even with a scholarship.

All y'all mfers in here talking serious. I was just making fun of all the buzzwords used.
I even caught one trying to throw in "intersection" the other day.
Good times.

MBA from Top 5 School? - Yes
MBA paid for by your company? - Sure
Looking to completely change careers? - Maybe
Otherwise - Nah

Top 5? shite, Top 20 to maybe Top 30.
If you can get into a Top 20 B School I think it's an automatic yes.

The Stafford loan process was easy for me. I submitted the application and was approved for ~20k per year. I don't recall the details though.

Eh, I thought about saying Top 10....but you may be right.
I think it depends on how well off you are in your current job obviously.

You are at Kellogg? The opportunities are out there and they aren't necessarily McKinsey, BCG, KKR, Carlyle, Goldman, etc. Supply/demand principles apply to those jobs.
