Depends. Interstate, highway, city? Job strict on arriving/leaving times?

How far do you drive now? You'll be losing ~12% of your day and ~17% of your waking hours.

My friend who is a pharmacist works 4 days a week, 2 days on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 1 day off.

He commutes to Lake Charles from New Orleans, coffee will become your best friend if it isn't already. This guy never drank coffee before and now he drinks 2 cups a day

I think you'll be fine honestly.

I know people who drive that far. I wouldn't, but some people do it.

I did 100 miles a day one way for 18 months. It's been a few years ago. Bought a new Geo Metro 3 cylinder for the ordeal. Called it my motor cycle in disguise (got 50 miles/gal). I knew it wasn't going to be forever. All driving was on rural highways so the enemy was deer, cows, deer, logging trucks and did I say deer. 20 hours a week driving but in the end it was worth it.

A bud of mine got a promotion...commuted from Ruston to Shreveport for 3 years...woke up one morning and said screw it and resigned with an email.

Married, with kids? It is not worth it.

That's the key here. I did a year without a problem because I knew there was an end.

If I had no endgame it would be a different story.

I've done an hour commute most of my life working in 3 different states. 1 hour is good but anything more than that would require a significant change in your lifestyle.

I commuted about 84 miles one year. Kind of sucked, but you get used to it. The worst was having to make that drive just to take care of some insignificant matter. I'd consider it again for a situation like yours. Satellite radio and podcasts are your friends.

No. Do the math on that and you'll find its not worth it.

Unless you are making over 100k right now, its totally not worth it. It still would probably not be if u made over 100k.

My commute isn't that long in miles but during rush hours it takes 90 minutes. Commuting from San Marcos to Austin.

Too long. Even if it is all interstate. And I doubt that it is. You are talking about minimum 3 hours of your life on the road and away from your family. Then if you add up the gas and wear and tear on your ride. Maybe if you carpool with a few people, but not even then. Forget it.

Not that bad now but it was terrible at first. I started leaving earlier in the morning and leaving before 430. And I work in South Austin so I don't have to drive through the city.
