Depends on what the difference in advancement potential and experience gained would be. Which will have you set up in a better position in 2 years? 5 years etc.

I don't know if it's been asked/answered, but I'd factor in how long I'm working per day into my decision...8, 10 or 12hrs.

With 8 hrs, I'm inclined to say go for it. With 12 hours, I wouldn't consider it. I personally commute 45 miles(one way) and work 12hrs/day. There's no way I'd double my commute time. It would be unsafe.

For about a year I commuted to Southern Indiana for work. Technically 40 miles but every bit of an 1 hour and 15 minute commute during the week because they will be eternally working on I-65.

The drive home wasn't too bad (I regularly worked 2nd shift and picked up some 3rds on a double). But the ride in was a pain in the arse.

That's 900 plus miles/week. In a year's time, that's a lot of miles to put on your car (almost 47K in 52 weeks.)

It is a 3+ hours/day commute on a good day with normal traffic flow. What if there are accidents on the road? What if the interstate or surface streets are closed for hours on end? What if the weather is bad?

I commuted BR to Laffy for 5 months. It was horrible and that was only 50 miles each way. On Fridays, coming back to BTR at 5:30 was hell crossing the MRB.

Is %30 $20k more or $70K more, how much money? The percent in actual dollars means something, but it's going to add 2 hours of driving to your day, at least. If your brain is saying no then your body and your family is going to say HELL NO. You can do it only if you want to, and if your wife and kids support you that is the most important thing. Or you can buy a helicopter...

Yes it is. You will eventually come to hate it. I drove 110 miles roundtrip for the last 12 years of my employment, five days a week and averaged over 25,000 miles on my truck (including running around mileage when home).

A possible 3 hours a day on the road? After a while it becomes more taxing than the job itself.

I think it is.

I do ~70 each way depending what route it take and it's on the ragged edge of being too far.

90 miles? Yes, that is too far. 60 miles (going against traffic flow) is the maximum for me. You've got to get up earlier, get home later, pay more in gas and vehicle maintenance.

Hell no.

I literally left Houston because of the "commute" ....spending at least an hour each morning and evening in your car just to go to WORK got to be too much. Now I am 10 minutes from work and my lifestyle is 1000 times better. Can go home for lunch, meet repairman etc... Your life is too short, don't spend it in a car just to make money.

Exactly. My situation was kind of reverse. I took to the long highway to spend more time at home as opposed to making money. Took about a 25% cut in pay to have more home time.

Best move I ever made.

I love to drive and that's too far for me.

Plus, you'd.be wearing out a car every two years.

DON'T DO IT.

35 Miles one way isn't much. I would do it for a 30% pay.

ETA: Misunderstood. No way I would do it at 90 miles each way.
