Depends upon what type of turf is being mowed, at what height and by what type of machinery.

Grass clippings are natural fertilizers as they possess necessary nutrients that are available to the plant. Thatch is the area just below the surface of the crown. Normally the first 1-3" of soil. Plus, I highly doubt most lawn owners are verticutting and aerifying their home lawns on a consistent basis to fight off thatch accumulation.

Where I live in the summertime.....6 am is like 89 degrees....8 am it's already up to 105 degrees sometimes.....2 hours makes a huge difference in some places.

Must be getting old if you're up at 6:30 am on a Saturday looking to cut the grass.
