I think it is Ancestry but our first cousin called my sister and indicated that Ancestry had identified a close relative who was closer to my sister's DNA than my cousin. It turned out to be a half sister who lives in California. Now my two sisters and I were aware of the possibility. My father who was about to go to medical school was asked by an ObGyn to be a donor for an infertile couple in (believe it or not) the late 1940s. I was told about this when I was in my early 20s many years ago. I remember my father was angry with my mom in telling us this because he and the family wanted total anonymity. So I knew I had a possibility for a half sister but never thought I'd find out who it is. So fast forward to last year, we met her and visited for a couple of days. And our half sister was not aware her father was not her genetic father. So yes, we had a lot of explaining to do to her but it turned out just fine but was a total shock for her.

Don’t know if OP ever served in the military or not. But if he did and it was anytime past the mid to late 90s, they’ve already got his DNA in a massive government database.

You realize that as long as some of your close relatives send in their DNA, that the government could tell that a close relative of theirs committed a crime and narrow it down to you pretty quickly if you left DNA evidence at a crime scene.

Does the Motorola Razr allow this technology? A store, I get. But how do they know what painting was in the Drs office and how do they know you looked at it?

And how did they get contact info? Seems interesting unless permission is strictly given, not something hidden in pages of "terms of service". Companies are hiding things in those that would cripple their products if customers knew it.
Like no way of opting out of the cookie tracking pop ups nowadays. it's like they gave you notice, and thats all. Crazy.

So the phone heard me say "cool painting". The painting was geotagged by whoever put it on the wall i.e. the person they bought it from. Then the data dots were quickly connected that I said cool painting within proximity to a certain painting. So they tried to sell that print to me on social media.
Its fairly simple.
And I don't think old school RAZRs have active listening, but I'm not sure.

I don’t understand the fear of ”govt having my dna”. They already issue you a serial number, have all your banking documents, medical documents, vehicle information, housing information.

I have no desire to find new people to add to my life. It's hard enough dealing with myself much less more of other people's issues.
