Got a call this morning from a guy with the IRS.

Unfortunately I missed the call, but called the number back. He apparently was leaving me a message while I called back.

Me: Hi this is (taxpayer first name redacted), I just missed a call from this number.

IRS: Is this (taxpayer first name and last name redacted)?

Me: Yes, I missed a call from this number.

IRS: Do you have a criminal attorney with you at the courthouse?

Me: What?

IRS: Do you have an attorney that does criminal that you know at the courthouse?

Me: |SNORT| bahahaha oops

IRS: Why are you laughing?

Me: What?

IRS: You laughed, why are you laughing? This is serious.

Me: I don't know, that's just a really weird thing to ask and it was funny.

IRS: (Some muffled talking to someone in the background) I will call the police and they will come get you in 5 minutes.

CLICK, he hangs up.

Yes, he had a very distinctive eastern accent and sounded like he was in a boiler room.

Gonna listen to the message and see if I can upload it here.

It was so bad. I was gonna play along with it for awhile... was getting ready for an hour drive and needed to kill the time.

He did have my first and last name... and possibly my cell number, but I have a few numbers forwarded to my cell, so not sure exactly which number he called.

It makes me wonder how many people they fool though. The IRS doesn't call anyone. They send letters that freak people the frick out but usually can be resolved simply.

Same thing happened to me and it was a Google voice number. She said the feds were coming to arrest me in 5 minutes unless I sent them like $1K as a down payment and they wanted to be paid with iTunes cards.

Pretty good deal for apple that the USA now takes iTunes cards as payments.

I just called that number and got the same Middle Eastern sounding guy. He sounded drunk with a broken "Hello". I said, "Is this the IRS? I need to speak to the IRS." There was a long pause and then goes, "You have wrong number" and then hung up.

They've called me a couple times, it's hilarious for a little while then I give them a big hearty FU and hang up. Trust me, when the KGB errrrr IRS comes calling they don't use the phone.

Usually at least a year after the filing deadline too. I've always wondered if they would send you a check for an underpayment if their system caught it.

I asked for their agent number and the guy started stuttering.

its a scam and I called that douchebag for 6 weeks. Finally one day he answered and said "you win, please stop calling"

I still call every once in a while to mess with him

I had some fun with one of those - just to make one of my youngsters happy. They were asking for me, anyway (Verizon records, in all likelihood) - so I called asking for an agent Johnson (female first name):

Subcontinent accent guy: She is not here. But I am Agent Firstname Johnson and I can help you with that.

Ace: Sir, where are you located? Which office is this?

SAG: This is the Los Angeles office.

Ace: And this is the "United States" Internal Revenue Service?

SAG: Yes, sir.

Ace: So, let me get this straight - the first agent that called is named Johnson and your name is Johnson, yet you have a subcontinent accent? Why don't I believe you?

I get the same call about qualifying for a low interest rate on my credit cards all the time.

I called back the first time and a guy is telling me that I qualify for a lower interest rate due to making my payments on time. He says all I need to do is verify the expiration date and card number. I read off the expiration date. He then asks to verify the card number. I tell him that I would be happy to verify it and to just read it out and I would verify that it's the right number. He hangs up.

I still get the same call about once a week.

It is fun to just start asking tons of questions. before they can answer ask another one.

I am great at annoying people.

My dad got that call when I was there. Being an attorney, I handled it by smacking my penis against the phone. I asked the "IRS" agent if he liked. He sounded confused so I did it again. He asked what it was and I told him. I must have thrown him off his game because he hung up.

I tried to get a guy to quote me for a security system. For the 500 or so bed hospital that I was working at and calling from.

They are quick getting address info. They hung up.
