Or the US was moving operatives (Iranian-"Canadians") out, and they blasted the plane. Seems the White House de-escalated "The Iran threat" shortly after....who knows.

Yeah they fessed up after the crash scene showed clear evidence of a SAM and U.S. intel proved it.
