GoFundMe should be started to campaign/primary this DA next election-cycle.

Bizarre story.

Agree with the other posters who said they should try the dead guy posthumously. That's probably the only recourse she has to get out of paying his family. His family should do the right thing and give her the money.

What kind of fricking court is this? Was the judge a customer too? The motherfrickers who terrified her with telling her shed go to prison? Its past time to take scalps of these mfers.

If I'm on that jury I'm pushing for nullification. She had no reason to believe he wouldn't attack her if he awoke to find her attempting to flee.

She feared for her life, this is idiotic.

Also if I'm the family, this entire thing is moot as I give the money back, and publically call my son a failure, and honestly if I was that kids father I'd either immediately give my life to charitable acts monk style or commit suicide.

Lewis was 15 when she stabbed Brooks more than 30 times in a Des Moines apartment. Officials have said Lewis was a runaway who was seeking to escape an abusive life with her adopted mother and was sleeping in the hallways of a Des Moines apartment building when a 28-year-old man took her in before forcibly trafficking her to other men for sex.

Lewis said one of those men was Brooks and that he had raped her multiple times in the weeks before his death. She recounted being forced at knifepoint by the 28-year-old man to go with Brooks to his apartment for sex. She told officials that after Brooks had raped her yet again, she grabbed a knife from a bedside table and stabbed Brooks in a fit of rage.

Police and prosecutors have not disputed that Lewis was sexually assaulted and trafficked. But prosecutors have argued that Brooks was asleep at the time he was stabbed and not an immediate danger to Lewis.

This just made me so damn angry reading this. This is probably one of the most fricked up things I have read. She is a freaking child. She was being trafficked. Not only was she statutory raped by grown men. But forceably raped as well. I'm proud of her for getting the courage to kill the bastard in his sleep. That was the best option.
Chances are if she tries to escape, but mistakenly woke him up. She would have either been killed or beaten within an inch of her life.

The shitty prosecutor who decided to charge her to begin with deserves a full prison sentence. frick him.

Read the article. He was forced to by state law that had been upheld by the State Supreme Court. He obviously didn't think it was justified but had no choice.

Saying that, the DA is a pos for bringing it to trial.

Here’s an idea…keep the criminals locked up to begin with.

So why the frick was she charged and convicted? Who cares if he was asleep, she was hostage and being raped at knife point. I’d argue a young girl wouldn’t be able to fight him if he was awake.

I hate this country these days. She should be applauded as a hero, and the world is better off without that scumbag alive. The legal system is broken and while “technically” she may have committed a crime by the book, sometimes you gotta use some damn common sense. I can’t believe a jury convicted her

Just saw the plead guilty part. Yea she was pressured because she was scared of a murder charge so she took a plea deal.

She should have fought the murder charge. No jury would have voted to convict her

As of Wednesday morning, the GoFundMe set up to help Lewis pay the restitution she owes to Brooks' family had raised over $168,000. The highest single donation came in the amount of $5,000 from an anonymous donor.

I'm surprised GoFundMe didn't clip her account.

Prosecutors took issue with Lewis calling herself a victim in the case and said she failed to take responsibility for stabbing Brooks and "leaving his kids without a father."

I seriously doubt this "victim" was Father Of The Year material.

If the Iowa Governor had balls (which the governor does not), this would get a big pardon.

As for being required to pay the estate of her rapist, "This court is presented with no other option," Porter said, noting the restitution is mandatory under Iowa law that has been upheld by the Iowa Supreme Court.

Hey, Iowa. How bout you revisit this mandate and make the necessary changes to avoid a stupid situation like this from happening in the future.

Being a kid with the life she had and a public defender... my guess is that she didn't have too much faith in "the system".

Also... we have Soros funded DAs who won't prosecute anyone and then we have DAs who prosecute this.

Also... this judge...

LINK

quote:

The judge peppered Lewis with repeated requests to explain what poor choices she made that led up to Brooks' stabbing and expressed concern that she sometimes did not want to follow rules set for her in juvenile lockup.

"The next five years of your life will be full of rules you disagree with, I'm sure of it," Porter said. He later added, "This is the second chance that you've asked for. You don't get a third."

Oh... F you, judge. She should have never been in lockup in thee first place.

I HATE the race card... but being this is Iowa... were the judge and the rapist white?

I don’t know about the judge but one of her rapists - the one she managed to kill - was black.

If this is her second chance I'd guess she was far from an angel before this incident.

May have something to do with why the DA brought charges. Being a juvenile her past record will likely not be revealed.
