What do either of the theories directly point to AM being the murderer?
The state has the burden of proof to prove their theory and here they are on the last rebuttal witnesses, rebutting a defense witness over a borderline meaningless point.

They were really going on about the State lying about the blood on AM's shirt and the way that shots were loaded at Moselle.
quote:Agreed. And AM's financial crimes bring it home for them. But the Judge allowed it.
It's absolutely unethical and actually criminal.
But even worse than that, they leaked the false facts to the public to taint the jury pool.
As already discussed briefly, the list of clients that were robbed of their settlements have other lawyers in the firm on them.
There is no way the firm wasn't aware. I also think there are plenty of dirty cops. Any more dirty bankers in town?
Paul's boating accident murder causing an audit-- really pissed off a lot of people.
Like PM's paralegal said on the stand: the father of Mallory Beach was her first cousin.
They needed an out of State change of venue for the jury.
Did Lafitte the crooked bankers house sell yet?

Is it true that Moselle is under contract but went in a snag at some point because PM sold it to MM for $5?

Jury will visit Moselle tomorrow morning. Court will resume at 11am with closing arguments.
On a side note, I’m riding over to Moselle this weekend. Can’t go on the property but my wife (no pics) and I want to ride by there.

I very seriously doubt that Paul had Moselle to even be able to sell to Maggie. The Moselle property was in Maggie’s name at the time of her death.. It is part of her estate. It is under contract for $3.9 million. Alex Murdaugh tried to disavow any right to Maggie’s estate, which would mean it would not be part of his asset collection to fund all of his creditors. I do not think that has been resolved, but their neighbors are under contract to buy the property once it is determined where the money would go.

This is completely disregarding all other testimony, including the unnecessary financial angle.
IMO, I think he killed Paul and Maggie out of passion. He was stressed, on opiods, and wanted to visit his dad in the hospital knowing he only had days to live. He was going to go with Maggie and Paul. Yet Paul doesn't show up until 7 pm and Maggie decides to get a Pedi and shows up after 8. Then they sit down for dinner. Paul then says he has to check out his friend's dog at the kennels. Maggie joins Paul. Alec then gets a couple of guns and follows them down and kills them.

Just saw (maybe this was already common knowledge, who knows) that the 300 blackout shells found at Maggie's body were identical to ones found near the flowerbeds near the house that were months old. A family gun killed Maggie.
Just confirming here because I genuinely don't know -- the gun that killed Paul was not found near his body, correct?

You are correct. They didn’t find either gun.
Today was the first time that that I heard about the shells too. I’ve been wondering why there has been such an effort to prove that the killer(s) used family guns and now it makes sense.

I came back to this thread to ask, how has Cousin Eddie never been a suspect? Maybe I missed him being cleared but damn this character HAS to know something right?
Posted on 2/28/23 at 5:07 pm to Corso
That SC newspaper that has the 11 page document within---- on cousin Eddy failing a lie detector test regarding MM & PM's deaths is paywalled.
There are some memes that cousin Eddie failed 3 lie detector tests-Total.

I think somebody else killed the boy, (daddy couldn't do it)... But I certainly think he was capable of blasting the wife....

The State (Columbia, SC)--Alex Murdaugh’s lawyers say Eddie Smith failed polygraph about Maggie, Paul’s murders

I still stand by someone else killing them with his knowledge and/or blessing. There's something else at play here that he's not talking about.

Why do they show cousin Eddie in cuffs but hide Ellick's cuffs?
Wait I saw Ellick doing hand movements/no cuffs recently. Did they win a request of no cuffs in the courtroom?

Keep in mind, an admitted paranoid drug addict who lives high out of his mind can do just about anything. Ask family members of any hardcore drug addict if it changes their decision making or personality.
You can’t compare a drug addict thinking to a normal husband or father.

You rarely see anyone cuffed during their trial. Cousin looked to be cuffed at some type of arraignment. Thats why he is also wearing prison garb. He’s not in front of a jury I wouldn’t think.

I guess I missed this in not watching the Netflix movie?
quote:
Further investigation revealed more crimes, and a state grand jury indicted Murdaugh and Smith in June 2022. Smith’s charges included four counts of money laundering, three counts of forgery, trafficking methamphetamine 10-28 grams, one count of unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. Prosecutors alleged that Murdaugh wrote Smith approximately 437 checks between 2013 and 2021 totaling about $2.4 million for money laundering purposes. The two were also accused of an alleged conspiracy regarding the distribution and purchase of Oxycodone.
A judge revoked Smith’s bond in August 2022 and ordered him to jail after prosecutors alleged that he’d violated terms of his release agreement, including that he misrepresented his financial information and violated his house arrest travel restrictions. Smith was handcuffed in the courtroom, and is currently under protective custody at the Lexington County Jail.

They talked about it a little in the Netflix doc. One of the investigative reporters did the math and said if all the money AM paid cousin Eddie was for oxy, he would have 114 years worth.
They also have a short clip of cousin Eddie saying he did not shoot Alex in the head because “if I would’ve shot him he would be dead”

True. True. Good points.
I think I was thinking of AM using his jackets when he arrives to court to cover cuffs. I think a news thing was made out of the different ways he covered his cuffs.

I believe it was the markings from the extraction of the shell which have enough markings to positively identify them to other shell casings found on the property.
There is testimony that extraction markings is potentially a junk science as guns from the same manufacturer of a lower may show similar extraction markings with each other. It's not like a bullet where the rifling and other characteristics of the barrel can positively identify the same gun.
