I thought I knew most things there were to know about '80s music. Can't believe there was so much content out there I never know about.

Interesting to see so many of the acts who thought they were poised to break through only to fizzle out (i.e. Artistic Control). Also interesting to see so many middling acts who made a 30-40 year career out of one minor Top 100 or 200 song (i.e. Cock Robin). There are also some WTFs present--acts that seemed cursed by being ahead of their time (i.e. The Chameleons, Belfegore, The Bolshoi, Caberet Voltaire).

I like doing a Wiki search on each act after watching their video to follow up on them.

The 80's were the greatest musical decade. The variety of what was being made is mind boggling. From pure pop to alternative to country it was greatness.

Not obscure, but the video for Seperate Ways was filmed in New Orleans.

Ignatious Jones' version of "Whispering Your Name" is so vastly inferior to Alison Moyet's, lol.

"Only You" from Yaz's Upstairs at Eric's is one of the favorite songs of my life.

I'm a Gen Xer and love all the alt 80's music. Front 242 LINK , Shriekback LINK , Camouflage LINK , Peter Murphy LINK . Just so creative and passionate.

Why did you post a video featuring Lyle Alzado?

They looked like they could be a current EDM act.

That was New Orleans? I always thought it was at one of the piers in SF

ETA: I did find this new "quarantine" video of Separate Ways done by a family to be quite amusing and well done

This thread is too important to be relegated to the black holes that are those boards.

Man I wish I had that shirt. But that's my point, there was that pure pop crap like that and great alternative line X, True Believers, Dream Syndicate, etc, etc,. The 80s were the first time bands that weren't on major labels could be heard.

I was born in 81 and the 80’s music has been the biggest pile of shite ever.

Well maybe the 2000’s is worst but it’s a toss up.

EDM came from 80's New Wave and extended mixes that got popular in bi/gay bars. Xanthus in BR for example. It's now a church ironically lol.
