That’s why the agent has Errors & Omissions insurance.

I understand that, but it’s a drawn out process compared to simply being paid your first party claim. And depending on the facts, the E&O carrier will fight it by claiming you had a duty to read and understand your policy.

True. The fact of not questioning the amount when less than expected would fall to policyholder, most likely. I’d have been on the phone 1st thing.

The payment charged may be the crux but all of them are the same and if they screw up it’s on you.

Long story short, I had flood insurance. A detached structure ( my game room) off my house flooded. Was Told I needed a seperate policy. Rebuilt it over the next few years, complete it, call my agent and said “I need a seperate policy”. He never called back but had his secretary return my call and tell me “ policies changed, now, detached structures are included for up to x amount. I said great. I’m good then.

Fast forward and I flood again. Guess what? Denied as I needed a seperate policy. After fighting this for a year and then blaming fema, fema claiming them. The insurance co turned it over to errors and omissions. Their conclusion was “ the agent did not foresee fema denying the claim, therefore he nor them were responsible “. shite you not. They advise you on what to do and admit it but when they are wrong, they can say well I didn’t see

good insurance company out there

Here is my take, as an independent broker.

Some are better than others, but the answer is "no". Carriers used Covid as an excuse to "invest in technology", cut staff, and save money by letting many employees "work" from home.

The agent* (really their staff), makes all the difference. Your example basically sums it up perfectly.

What I don't understand is why you went back to the same carrier?!

That is messed up. Seems their insurer would have rectified that. Sorry that happened to you…twice. Thank you for sharing your story. It may encourage someone to check on that in their policy and make sure they are insured properly.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that unearned premium was applied to the new policy. I would consider reporting to the Insurance Commissioner.

no but you should be smart enough to know them charging you way less than what was on the policy wasn’t going to last and they would get theirs eventually.

This should just about sum up the OP straight from his namesake's line in Time to Kill:

Harry Rex Vonner: Well see, there's your problem. What you should be thinking is, what would Harry Rex do?
Ellen Roark: What would Harry Rex do?
Harry Rex Vonner: Cheat. Cheat like crazy.

All makes perfect sense now. Appears to be a mindset for the jackass OP to me. He just got caught this time.

I've been with my current agent 25 years. It will be a sad day when "Judy" retires from his office...

I talk to them once every year or so. She recognizes my voice and my wife's every time we call. Asks about the kids and how we're doing....

So you seriously think someone would risk not having insurance, especially during tornado season, to save 4 or 5 hundred dollars as a grifter?

You're a whack job

Also on the independent side of things and this is how I would sum it up, more or less. IMO, be old school when it comes to who handles your insurance. Get somebody local, go to the office, shake their hand, and get to know them. I'm talking specifically the agent. Sales staff is fine, but you want to get to know the agency owner. Captive agents vs independent is not a huge concern for me and have had success using both. Whether an allstate or alfa agent writes the policy or an independent broker writes an allstate or alfa policy is not going to make a huge differece.

This scenario happens more than you’d think.

I bought my wife a new car and emailed my agent about it including the bill of sale and registration so he had all the info. He emailed me back it was done. I pay for the year in advance and never got a bill for whatever the new car was over the car we traded but honestly I never thought about it.

3 months later I was renewing the tag and the lady at the counter said I didnt have insurance on it. Called my agent and he checked into it and realized he had never finalized the change in their system. I was still covered on the car I had traded and had no insurance on the new car.

Mistakes happen but Im glad we hadnt had an accident or theft while it was not covered.

How do I know? Because in your OP, you said this:

quote:

Office manager said okay, and charged me way less than the full annual premium divided by four. Okay, I thought, and paid it.

What the frick man? Why lie?

Again with your fricked up reading skills.

No from your OP it’s pretty clear you thought you were “cheating” your insurance company for the same coverage. Why would you not question them when they were clearly going to bill you less than they originally quoted as many on here have patiently tried to tell you. But like a child, it’s not what you want to hear so you lash out.

Take the win dumbass. I’m tired of arguing with a rock.

I’ve had several, and ALFA is the best I have experienced. Comparable rates and quick on the claims process.
