Just had a couple of big oaks go down about three hours ago from a bad storm that moved through. Will homeowner's insurance pay for any of the removal?

You got blown over trees in your yard?

Sounds like a win.

Depending on your policy. Many policies require that the tree has to have either damaged your home or fence. I had 23 trees blown down during Gustav but only got paid for 7 trees,

If the trees grew on your property then more than likely yes. Depending on the company and what caused them to fall will determine if they will or not. Also, how much they will pay and their "guidelines" for doing so. It's usually not a whole lot.

make sure you don't lose any "claim free discount" to simply have some trees removed. The loss of the discount may well cost you more money than paying someone to remove the trees.

Hell depending on the amount of land you have and any restrictions, you could rent a skid steer with the "claw" attachment for about $250/weekend or $500/wk. you could easily clean them up into a pile with a chainsaw and a skid steer by yourself in a weekend and have a fire. Probably cheaper than a deductible if you have one.

Call your insurance agent, but be prepared for an answer you don't like. Get ready for some bullshite about how it would be cheaper in the long run to pay out of pocket in case you need to use the policy in the future.

Typically not, most policies owe to remove the tree from covered property, like it being on a house, garage or fence. Then once removed an additional 500 for debris removal.
If they are just on the yard then most policies will not pay anything

Most homeowner's policies do not insure trees in a windstorm event. They cover other things like houses and fences, so if the tree falls on covered property, then the policy owes a reasonable amount to remove the tree from the covered property and then there is a tree debris removal that is normally capped at $500 for all tree removal. The odds of coverage are slim, but you need you talk with your agent.

It all depends on your policy wording. I had alot of large trees down due to tornado. My homeowners policy paid to remove the trees from any real property, meaning fence, house or driveway. Not remove the tree....just get it off of whatever it hit. If it was in the yard without hitting something it wasn't their problem. Debris removal after getting the trees off of whatever it hit was suppose to be $500 max.

Thanks. As someone said, with a $1,000 deduct policy I'll just pay out of my pocket it appears. My yard guy has already called about cleaning it up for me. He only charges me $150 to mow 5 acres and weed eat so I think he'll make me a pretty good deal.

Storm came thru about 3 this morning, he calls at 8:10 and asked me if I needed help. He said three people had already called him to tell him about my predicament.

Small towns, gotta love 'em.
