Nah. You're under no obligation to let her in and her trying to push the issue earned her the middle finger, golf-clap and smirk.

I've gotten to where I will let people in if it's a legit merge (ie: they haven't had an opportunity to merge yet) but if I see there's at least a good car length or two behind me and they've passed that up just to get one more car (me) ahead... frick 'em.

You do not understand what a zipper merge is do you? Nothing wrong with her going up to the front to merge. Why should she merge 200 ft back and create another merge point. People like you are idiots. Unfortunately the majority of drivers will side with you because they can't stand the fact of someone getting ahead of them after sitting in line. There is a merge point for a reason.

THIS is flawed thinking. Zipper merging WORKS in the early moment(s) of a merge being needed.

But when traffic is backed up for more than 1000 ft, the zipper merge has already been executed & people getting in the line farther back are simply getting ahead of the merge point.

If there has been a significant back up where 1 lane is "wide open", a driver skipping to the front IS NOT helping the situation in any way because the merge has already taken place. The reason for the long line back up is for traffic well into the lessened lane(s) of traffic.

IDIOTS don't understand this. so, if you don't get it = YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

Correct. And the inconsiderate fricks zooming ahead of the line of slow/stopped traffic are the reason it moves so slowly.

Zipper merging FTW.

But that puts me in an awkward position if no one else is doing it. Then I become the a-hole that’s trying to cut because the merge has already taken place.

But it’s most efficient to use every bit of the available lanes as possible.

Quite a dilemma.

You did the right thing. Zipper merging is no different than driving on the shoulder to try and get to front of the line.

Good for you. I applaud everything you did and have done same many times. People who drive all the way to the end of the merge lane are trash.

It has a right turn directional arrow painted on the ground. As well as a straight and left arrow in the adjacent lanes. But, no sign. People also sit and wait in the right turn lane for the light to change so they can go straight through the intersection since there’s two lanes for that road. The two lane road has a right turn only lane at the light when coming from the road perpendicular to it.

Couldn't be more wrong. If traffic is flowing, early merging is the more efficient method. Once traffic becomes stop and go, zipper merging is more efficient. Studies show it about 15% more efficient. Other developed countries were everyone doesn't have a me first attitude actually make it work correctly.
