Instant Karma is a Beautiful Thing

Today, while on my drive home, there was heavy (Atlanta) traffic on this one lane road I always take. I’m sitting at a red light, and the road ahead is backed up all the way under the light, clogging the intersection. Not wanting to add to that pile up, I patiently wait for it to clear up while the light is green. This is where the moment in question comes into play.

There’s a right hand lane just beyond the light, coming out of a shopping center, that has a “lane ends merge left” sign about 200ft before it ends. As I’m crossing the intersection in the lane that continues, this woman passes by me, and everyone else sitting in traffic, in the lane that ends. She gets to the front of the pack and stops, expecting someone to let her merge.

People do that move all the time on that road. So, I decide to ride the rear of the car ahead of me, cautiously of course, so as to prevent her from merging in front of me. As my vehicle is passing by hers, she tries to merge, even though there was!only about 3 to 4 feet of space. She honks her horn in objection. I shoot her the bird, not budging an inch, and keep it moving. She zooms ahead to the very end of the line of cars where her lane ended, turns on the left blinker, and waits. No one had let her in before I caught up to her again, so as I’m passing I give a little shite eating grin and a golf clap towards her direction, and then never saw her again.

Am I an a-hole for not letting her merge? Probably. Would I do it the same if I had the chance. You’re fricking right I would. It’s the principalities, Smokey.
