People still do it: it’s literally called “cold brew”
I get that they call it cold brew now, but I was just referring to what it used to be called. Or at least what the hippie chick that was a friend of my wife and me called it.
And that is what they were calling instant coffee, which to me is not instant coffee in the sense that many people associate with instant coffee.

Lol. Not the drip I thought you were talking about

I have a coffee maker it drips and shite. Not sure what it is called. Makes a cup, not a whole pot.

BS test. They have liquid coffee in bottles. That’s not instant.
Yep. That's an old thing people used to do, basically steep an entire pound of coffee in about 1 gallon of cold water overnight and end up with a concentrated liquid that was called coffee essence. Then, use a teaspoon of that liquid in hot water and end up with pretty darn good coffee. Not at all like traditional instant coffee.

I drink Walmart Great Value Classic Roast Tostado instant coffee and use Silk Milk Carmel Almond Creamer, plus some Stevia artificial sweetener. It's really fast and really good, and probably unhealthy. I'm sure I could do better, but don't care.

Hell no, but try some percolated over a hardwood fire. That's stuff is the shite.

All I care about is the caffeine boost.
Instant coffee keeps much better than grounds/whole bean
You can mylar instant coffee for 20+ years

I recently purchased a French press. It’s quicker than a standard coffee pot and the coffee seems to be really good and plastic free, which is the main reason I bought it.
I use community Café special medium roast.

I can’t drink coffee. For me, it loosens my bowels and is an instant trip to the bathroom. This is me on the toilet.

I like the smell, can't stand the taste. My drink of choice is unsweetened ice tea.

I recently purchased a Nespresso Vertuo machine and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I haven't drank instant coffee in forever, I'm sure some of it is decent.

Perc coffee is over-extracted garbage, but I imagine brewing it over a hardwood fire would have some charm

Hey buddy, I'll have you know I was responding to someone else on their high horse from atop mine!
But aside from that

Instant coffee was the norm in most of the 5 or 6 British homes I stayed in during a trip. They all had electric kettles to boil H2O for tea, and if the Yank wanted coffee they pulled out the instant.
Only one home, a wealthy couple with a huge American style house, had a drip coffee maker. They were also the only ones with full size washer and dryer like we all have.
Most homes are smaller, and energy is expensive, so space and energy saving are important for most. I think that is why instant is popular with many of them. Mr. Coffee takes a lot of space in a tiny kitchen.
Some middle class folks still had clothes lines or racks in the yard to save on electricity. One had a small hot water heater in a cabinet, and there were slotted wooden racks above it to dry clothes on. Pretty smart, and a toasty warm towel off those racks was awesome.

This has been my recent go-to. I enjoy the process, and when done right, it tastes amazing.
