Why cant the government just tell me I owe them a certain amount and I send them in a check? Why do we have to go through the song and dance of inspection stickers, drivers license renewals, title renewals, etc

Couldn't they all just get their cut from the check I sent in?

Once it gets to the top, it doesn't come down.

Inspection stickers a yearly thing now. It wasn’t like that before. Just another money grab.

Some states take the inspection process more seriously than Louisiana. A friend of mine up in PA said you have to make an appointment and it's a 30-45 minute ordeal- not exactly sure what all they check, but it's not a quick spin through the gas station.

I can see driver's licenses given that age brings about physical and mental changes to each person differently. Car registration renewals are fricking dumb

Most of the Metairie area, the brake tag places don't really care. As long as your horn honks and your brake lights work, you're in an out.

Now the old bastards who run the Kenner brake tag place when I lived there were like brake tag Nazis.

If you’ve ever been to a privatized dmv for a new license you will be convinced how inefficient the government is compared to private business… if you aren’t already.

Could have sworn brake tags and inspection stickers are different in what they inspect

It's bad here in Texas.

I am trying to buy a gun. No one will sell me a gun here or anywhere because I still have a California license.

So when I moved here in July I tried go to the DMV, they said I need an appointment. I go to make an appointment, the closest date I could get an appointment for a DMV in Tarrant County was DECEMBER.

So I looked at other locations and the closest appointment I could get was September 21st in Stephenville, a 75 minute drive. So I drive there last week to do that, and turns out they wouldn't take my W2 since it was a copy instead of the real thing. So I drove 75 minutes for nothing. And the next appointment I could get was October 26. So I have to wait another month just to get a license so I can buy a gun.

All because COVID fear mongering is still rampant. They say they do appointments only to keep us safe from COVID and prevent DMV overcrowding... but that Stephenville DMV was crowded as hell anyway.

Tell this to anyone says its easier to buy a gun than to vote.

Pretty much the same in N.O. now at the place I go for brake tags. They have me roll down and up the driver's side window, honk the horn, check the blinkers---front and back, back up lights, headlights both dim and high beam, brake lights, windshield wipers and horn.

Total time is about 10 minutes including scraping off the old tag and applying the new one.

Years ago when the city had their own brake tag stations they'd check headlight alignment and make you run on skid plates in the floor and apply your brakes to make sure all brakes were working properly besides the above crap.
