Can we see how people voted on this bill?
Posted on 4/28/25 at 6:20 pm to dyslexic
They were stopping vehicles on HWY 30 (of all places during rush hour) checking for inspection stickers.

State police gets the lion's share of it prob for their retirement. Need to audit where the money is going.

There was supposed to be verbiage in the bill that would have added a fee to all vehicle registrations to offset the loss of inspection sticker revenue for the state.
I guess it either wasn’t included, or the right palms aren’t getting greased under the new arrangement.
This state is arse.

Name those legislators who voted against it so we can vote them out.

For the five parish BR metro area emission test and sticker would still be require due to federal law(air quality)

I really don’t understand why Louisiana doesn’t just do it like that. It’s so easy. I go to a mechanic, get the emissions test for $20 then go across the street to HEB and register it at the money center. 30 minutes for the whole thing and I’m done. No mailing. No waiting on the mail. Hell I’m sure they’ll get to a point where it’s all digital. No sticker. It’s all tied to the vin/license plate.
Sounds like more than the hassle we have now.
Now we just go to an approved Inspection Center. It could be a local gas station with a garage a car dealer, or city inspection facility.
The worker will jot your information down, and check for your turning lights and horn. They peel off the old sticker and give you another one good for one or two years. They also do the emissions test if you live in a specific parish.
Now places like Orleans parish and the city of Kenner have their own inspection system and tags. I guess they cut the state in on the juice for having their own tags.
But I am with most people, just end it and add an extra 10 dollars a year to your vehicle registration fees if this is about money.
But you will hear cries about having safe vehicles on the road and how the money raised is used for state police or DOTD operations. And not having tags could increase insurance rates.

My CC card got me out of inspection sticker ticket with St Gab PD. But it cost St Gabriel Grocery 4 months of my business because I didn't cross the tracks. Car still doesn't have a valid sticker on it. This was their Christmas fund raising shake down on 74.

For the most part, the cost is divided three ways: $4.75 to the station performing the inspection; $4 goes to Louisiana State Police; and $1.25 goes to the Office of Motor Vehicles. The extra $8 cost in the five parishes goes to the emission testing. The revenue is used to fund the operating budget of each agency.

Even worse. I think the BR metro has been in compliance with ambient ozone levels since 2019. And the tests still haven't gone away.

Anyone know these clowns?
I guarantee you all of them are on the take.

The most common reason for failing emissions testing is, quoting the DMV:
Fails DTC-A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a code used to diagnose malfunctions in a vehicle. DTCs are read by a scanner that plugs directly into the OBD II port of a vehicle. There are universal DTCs and manufacturer-specific DTCs. Vehicles that fail due to Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) do so because a situation has occurred which COULD lead to an increased level of emissions released from the vehicle. In most cases, the vehicle’s Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is illuminated on the dash panel. The problem may not be noticeable or affect the vehicle’s performance, but over time the situation could worsen and lead to increased inconvenience and expensive repairs. If your vehicle failed because of a DTC, the vehicle should be repaired before returning to a motor vehicle inspection station for a retest.
So you fail because a DTC reveals a problem that MAY cause increased emissions, not HAS or WILL cause them, but MAY result in increased emissions.
Can that even be defensible if challenged on its vagueness? It’s bull crap!

Mississippi got rid of our inspection stickers about a decade ago

Cracks galore, hell..one 8 inch crack on the passenger side fails your vehicle. I spent 2 weeks chasing down an EVAP issue on my 2006 Chevy 5.3L Silverado that is otherwise in perfect mechanical condition. Figured it out, went in and was failed for a crack just to the right of center behind my mirror that I could barely see. One crack.
Meanwhile, F1 drivers racing at 200+ mph with a bar literally in the middle of their face.
