Why should I have to re-register my vehicle every few years anyway? Register it when you buy it, and the new guy register it when you sell it. Just a money grab.

I just got an inspection sticker ticket yesterday in Woodworth. It would have been in a year in July that it was expired. I can’t wait to see what the cost of that one is gonna be.

You are bringing it to the wrong places. I've never had more than the horn, headlights, taillights and turn signals checked. Most will look past the tint.
Depends where the vehicle is registered. Baton Rouge area vehicle require emissions check, others do not

I wish they would enforced people who aren’t complying with inspection stickers more. I see way too many people without working head or brake lights.

If you're over the age of 30 and drive a decent vehicle, and look like a normal tax paying citizen, no ones giving you an inspection sticker ticket.
I got one at 745 in the morning pulling into the church parking lot with my family on a sunday in st gabriel. The cop pulled a mid-road lights blazing U turn like she was after a serial killer to come get me. Sticker was 34 days out of date. I still don't understand how she even saw it.
So your hypothesis is incorrect. They do in fact give a shite.

Its main function is to help the State Police fund their retirement system. I think the SP are ok with elimination as long as the state collects that money from us another way.

People are too ignorant/short sighted to understand this.
They simply think nothing is wrong and everything should remain the same. That mindset is why Louisiana will always suck.

mom and pop still going to be put out of business if they actually doing the inspection right....who goes to the inspector who actually runs through the whole list?

I’d like to hear the arguments for keeping inspection stickers
The inspection sticker fees provide something like $22 million towards the State Police budget.
It’s not about safety, it’s about the money.

Louisiana Sheriff's Association is the group that defeats it every year. Quit buying those supporter tags that you think will get you out of a ticket (they don't).

So just tax everyone an extra $50 a year. Why do I have to go through arse pain of making sure my left fricking blinker works?

They could collect it by cracking down on criminals. They could write 5,000 legitimate speeding tickets on any given night in the correct neighborhoods.
But that isn't the point. The fact that a bunch of undocumented residents can drag a caravan of busted up shite westbound down the interstate all day every day with zero law enforcement harassment is enough to make me not give a shite about anyone's retirement fund coming out of my wallet. Do something about the total frickin anarchy after Sundown in this state and then maybe I'll be interested in having some of my money be used to support then.

I was an early adopter.
My property taxes support them enough.

This should absolutely not be construed as legal advice, and I'm certain there are exceptions, but most jurisdictions will dismiss a no inspection sticker ticket if you provide proof that you now have an up to date inspection sticker. Use that information as you will.

Yet everyday I see cars with fake Texas license plates. How do I know they're fake? Because in Texas you're supposed to have front and rear plates, but these cars only have rear ones. So they have no LA registration, no LA inspection sticker and I'm sure no insurance either.
Tackling the Texas license plate invasion would actually be something worthwhile for the LA legislature to do, but they'd rather spend time passing bills renaming a bridge somewhere the "Joe Blow Memorial Bridge" or banning THC products to protect some non-existent "children".

It all depends, daughter had one expired about 4 months over and was given a ticket. $250.

No ticket yet but I figure the fine will be less than the repair so I’m just gonna let it ride.
What area of the state you live in? If Cenla, I know of a couple places that would work with you.........

They paraded up some mom and pop inspection sticker operations and sobbed storied about how they'd be put out of business
For the $3 or $4 they make off each sticker?
Do 10 per day (which I seriously doubt) = 50 per week x 52 weeks = 2600 x say $5 = $13,000.
I bet mom and pop were paid more than that to "testify".

Places in BR do 100 or more per day. Decent money.
