I have an old vehicle that won’t pass emissions and needs a new catalytic converter. Haven’t had a sticker on it for years. No ticket yet but I figure the fine will be less than the repair so I’m just gonna let it ride.

Nah. Haven't had one or paid for one in 9 years now other than the time i had a new work vehicle that came with one.

If you're over the age of 30 and drive a decent vehicle, and look like a normal tax paying citizen, no ones giving you an inspection sticker ticket.

Texas still has the physical sticker but it’s just a registration sticker. So if you’re in one of the counties that requires an emissions test all you do is go get it tested then you register it. No safety inspection is required statewide anymore.

I really don’t understand why Louisiana doesn’t just do it like that. It’s so easy. I go to a mechanic, get the emissions test for $20 then go across the street to HEB and register it at the money center. 30 minutes for the whole thing and I’m done. No mailing. No waiting on the mail. Hell I’m sure they’ll get to a point where it’s all digital. No sticker. It’s all tied to the vin/license plate.

It is a user fee. I'd rather see this than a blanket tax.

In Texas, we got rid of the annual safety inspection but several of the more populous counties still require an emissions check. I’m hoping that doesn’t mean they’ll do a more thorough emissions test since they aren’t testing other things.

I wish it would pass too, but you would have been paying for it anyway even if it did. The plan was to just add it on your registration renewal every time it comes up. $10 x every year between registration renewal.

Just leave some blue masking tape on the top of your windshield and say you just got a new window shield.

I'd rather they just tack it onto my registration renewal.

They paraded up some mom and pop inspection sticker operations and sobbed storied about how they'd be put out of business

It's obviously a money grab.

Based on the rolling totals I've see on the road, it can be for safety.

One of the rebuttals I remember reading was that some businesses survive because the inspection stickers exist.

This is a governmental money laundering system because there's no reason a business should profit from a government-issued mandate on vehicle inspections.

Ah yes, the brake tag. To make sure my car is safe for roads that aren’t safe for my car.

Another reason this state is failing at every turn.

This is complete bad faith on the part of the state. The only reason they keep it is so you can get hit with another fine should you be pulled over.

I cannot wait to join the ranks of people who have left Louisiana.

Also, this state is obscene with what they charge to register a vehicle. And for what?
