Holy crap! You can get ARRESTED in Great Britain for being an insensitive douchebag. I'm glad to live in a country where douchebaggery merely gets one bashed here on the O-T.
Note: I'll give the benefit of the doubt, that this was set fire in a risky location, as being the cause for the charges of "suspicion of a public order offense". Otherwise... those arrests are fricked up.
[FYI "JPinLondon" has not been in London in many years... a questionable/rushed TD name choice twelve years ago]

Five people were arrested in London on Monday after a video posted on social media showed a group burning an effigy of Grenfell Tower, the public housing block where 72 people died in a massive blaze in 2017.
In a statement, London's Metropolitan Police said five men, ages 19 to 55, were being held on suspicion of a public order offense after they turned themselves in to a south London police station.
The men were not identified and additional details were not immediately available.
In the video, several people appear to be gathered around a model of the tower. After it's set alight, the group can be heard chuckling and cracking jokes.
"Help me, help me," someone can be heard saying at one point.
On Twitter, British Prime Minister Theresa May called the video "utterly unacceptable." Stuart Cundy, the Metropolitan Police commander leading an investigation into the fire, said it was "crude" and "vile" in a statement.
"I can't imagine the distress this video will undoubtedly cause to bereaved families and survivors," he said.
The fire, which ignited on the night of June 14, 2017, marked Britain's deadliest domestic blaze since World War II and became a symbol of the area's stark inequality.
Police investigators completed a forensic investigation of the tower in August, collecting evidence and examining its construction and maintenance systems. It's still unclear what caused the fire, though safety experts have told a public inquiry that combustible external cladding helped the fire to quickly spread.

They have no freedom of speech or expression, and "sending another any article which is indecent or grossly offensive with an intent to cause distress or anxiety" or "threatening or abusive words or behaviour intending or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress or cause a breach of the peace" are illegal.
But look how they floated that Trump balloon when he came, such an amazing country!

I'm sitting in my office in England right now, and just asked them about it, all of them are happy they have been arrested, and said they deserved it...I brought up the free speech, and they didn't seem worried about it.

I mean, it was a pretty huge worldwide story for a day or two. Given the nature of the modern news cycle, of course, it was quickly passed by.

That's crazy. Who's to determine what is inappropriate and what is not? Is speaking out against someone in power going to be deemed inappropriate in the future?
Free speech is such an awesome freedom I can't see anyone thinking it should be limited.

The UK is an absolute joke of a country. The entire royal family and government needs to be put down.

If they had burned a picture of Jesus it would have been “artistic” and no charges would have been filed.
You have to know what groups to target with your actions. That was their big mistake.

yep, and I can definitely tell you that Trump effigies were burnt all over the country the last few days, and again that's not a problem to them.

In America, they used to arrest people for burning a piece of red, white and blue cloth that the people owned. Crazy, right?
The Supreme Court shut that down in Texas v. Johnson in 1989.

I seem to remember something from History class about us being associated with those folks and then breaking away for some reason having to do with Free Speech and a couple of other reasons. Seems like not much has changed.
