Gas by a lot.

Not true. I've been cooking at my Mom's a lot lately. She's got a very nice 6 burner electric stovetop. I can't stand cooking on it.

Electric stoves have to be cleaned as well.

My gas stovetop is not difficult to clean. In fact, it's a lot easier than cleaning my Mom's.

Gas. The main thing I dislike about my house is that it is all electric, and there is a damn natural gas pipeline that runs through the back of the neighborhood. Makes no sense.

I seriously regret not getting a propane tank installed for the house while building. If NG is not an option the next time we build I will absolutely be putting in a tank.

I wonder what the cost would be to put one in retroactively.

I have electric (no gas available at the house) and cook a lot....it sucks. One of the things I hate most about this house. It's a nice glass top, double convection oven deal that wasn't cheap but I can't stand cooking on it.

I'm in the same situation.

We're currently house hunting and a gas range is high on my list, or at least a gas line feeder into the kitchen so I can buy a gas range.

I'm in an urban townhome at the moment and there isn't a gas line to it.

Are you able to get it?

The gas company recently started servicing this area but, from what I've heard, the homeowner has to pay to have the line built to the house which can run several thousand dollars. I'll just wait for my next home.

I'm sure it isn't the case everywhere but my local gas company put my line in for free.

As I upgrade my house I'll be adding in another gas line off the T I had put in for the other appliances.

I would call and verify there is a cost.

Do you cook a lot? Gas

Do you live in an area with frequent power outages (e.g., hurricanes)? Gas

Do you not really care and want ease for cleaning? Electric

Electric is "easier to clean" until something spills and burns and screws up the element because you can't scrub too hard without worrying about scratching it. I refuse to buy/live in a home that does not have a gas stove.

I have a nice electric stove top that is smooth material of some sorts so it supposed to be easy to clean.

You're 100% right. If I spill and then it burns into the surface, it does not come up without introducing some sort of abrasive that scratches.

The best method I've found that doesn't really damage it is wait an hour for it to cool of course, then cover in baking soda, spray baking soda with something that contains bleach, let it sit over night, then scrub the next morning.

Pain in the arse.

Gas should be the only option. I had electric all my life (no gas line in previous houses) until I moved to my current home and it is a game changer. Never go back to electric. EVER.

Removing 3 grates is hard? That's all I have and well worth bothering with 3 whole pieces to have gas.

No. Pretty much all ovens have an igniter that has to have a voltage flow of 3.2 amps(2.8 if round type), before it opens the gas valve.

Very few ovens have a spark starter which ignites the oven. Pilot light ovens are a thing of the past but they can still be found.

Neither, get an induction stovetop. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought. Heats fast, instant off, and the burners don’t get hot. Thus, spills wipe right up.

Gas cooks so much better than electric. Gas, by a mile.

You say that because you don’t cook. Cooking with gas is much better. It heat more evenly and intensely.
