Speculate? Have you noticed how dumb the general population is. I was talking to my adult nephews about this yesterday morning, and they didn’t even know that a Greek alphabet exists. Through the previous variants and hurricane naming, still no clue.

Good because it isn't pronunouced "Chi". I am not saying they didn't take the whole China leader thing under consideration, but Xi has a tricky pronunciation. I can see why they thought it would be better to just stick with the simpler letters.
