I guess it's probably because I have girls, but I'm much more worried about my kids' peers and the academics of their school, than I am anything to do with extracurriculars.
ETA: and also, avoiding the indoctrination of public school wackos.
of course and all things equal rather private and great extracurriculars
but all things arent always equal.
and of course academics come first but almost all the big schools have really good AP programs and offer dual enrollment
If your kid is in the AP program they dont have to deal with Gen pop as much. and most of the time the peers are going to be the ones on the sport of choice

if they can get a great education
So in a previous post you said you valued the catholic education. Does catholic education = great education in your mindset?
For someone that values catholic education, I get spending the money. For someone that doesn't, I think spending the money on a private school is just being lazy.
You get out of education what you put into it. I say this as a Louisiana public school graduate. I have two boys. One graduated public school, the other is currently in public school. I'm a USNA graduate, older boy is AFA graduate, younger one is an A student in a great gifted program.
Don't crap on public schools just because you're too lazy to research good programs that they have.

Private school is going to have "better" peers, and you are essentially the average of the people who you spend the most time with. Not to mention, the wacko public school teachers that are out there pushing their nonsense on students.
I went to public school, I'm doing alright. But, I'm also an outlier and I realize that.

what if your kid isn't gifted?
So Louisiana public schools suck to high heaven, but your kid cannot get into the gifted program in them?

it isnt a louisiana take. unless im sending my kid to public specifically for sports...much rather them in private, no matter where i live.
Why specifically?

i actually value the catholic education.
Not everyone is catholic and not every private school is catholic.

the only state where public schools really are better than private is texas and even that is debatable.
Based on what? Some of the best schools in the country are public and magnet schools.

could be....but do you want your kids around mainly kids that come from families that value education and are well educated and well off themselves?
i prefer my kids around the kids of doctors, lawyers, engineers, business owners etc over.....the kid who peeked in HS and not has a 1100 SF trailer and bounces turnaround to turnaround

im also a public school kid and have an engineering degree and have done very well.....doesnt change the laws of probability nor the statistics

i didnt...but all things being equal im chosing private over public anyday, especially in this state. If possible i dont want my kids around the bussed in kids....sorry if you consider that lazy. I consider you Naive AF.

Jesus. Ok man. If you honestly believe that, then we are miles apart in our realities. Sorry I jumped in this thread.

Exactly. Not familiar with other lower schools feeding to those type of places.

Cade,La. - Episcopal School of Acadiana...top notch academically
If you want a pink haired liberal, sure. Academically, it is the best school in that area, though.
Weird school, yes. You just have to work hard to instill conservative values at home so they don't get too weird over there. But academically, you are correct.

Why specifically?
because you have less class disruptors and 99% of the kids there are going to be from families that value education. I am product of public school and my kids go to private, i have seen the ownership that the families at private schools take. Think of only having your best kids from public school in school together and how nice that is
i dont want my kids around shite heads.

i know, not everyone can be perfect...that is ok, the world needs lots of sinners too.

the best schools in the NE and along the east coast are boarding and private schools. best schools in the MW are mainly private, same on west coast
simply based off test scores and statistics. Magnets are just free private schools, they get rid of all the riff raff
and not saying you cant get a good education in public, but i value the catholic aspect, i value them being in an extremely safe environment and i value them not being around kids that dont want to be there that are bused in.

Hot take. I don't want my kid at Comeaux, even if she is in the gifted program.

the fact that you dont shows how naive you are. fricking laughable
not sure what planet you live on
i would rather my kid not be exception in that he gets a good education
bottom line is only 26% of those in Louisiana have bachelors. If i have a choice
1) send my kid to a public school with a 6 year college grad rate of 30%
or
2) send my kid to private school with a 6 year college grad rate of over 90%
im choosing the second every time. That means he will be around kids that come from families that are invested in the education and value it. especially if the private school is catholic...that helps. great extra curriculars helps too

this is me and i do not understand why this is so hard to comprehend for some. maybe the naval academy guy should go take a class on statistics and trends

I know a fair amount of dumb kids that went to private school through high school.

Of course. That’s why I will raise them to hang around such people. Going to a public school does not equal hanging around kids that don’t value education.

That can be the case with public schools. I would like for my kids to be exposed to all types of people, it gives them a sense of what the real world is like. It’s incredible how oblivious kids who were sheltered all their lives are when they get to college. It’s up to you as a parent to teach them what type of people they should associate themselves with.

Damn I guess the fact that I rode a bus to school makes me trashy

I thought gifted was Lafayette high? I heard they are shutting comeaux down. Enrollment way down with southside and charter.

As 777 stated, I want my kids hanging out with other kids who have parents who are also successful. I want my kids' peers to have parents who care about their education. Are there kids that come from good families in public school? Of course, but that is also where the kids who have shithead parents go. I don't want my kid to have to be an outlier.
